Since 2005, HMC Ddmestic Regional Headquarters at Jeju has affiliated itself with various rural communities throughout the island, helping their economics grow by engaging in a variety of agricultural activities. In last December, all the employees of HMC Ddmestic Regional Headquarters at Jeju visited retirement homes in the region, delivering gifts.
A spokesperson for HMC Ddmestic Regional Headquarters at Jeju said: “We will do our best to fulfill our corporate social responsibility, by engaging continuously in our social commitment programs intended to benefit the disadvantaged in the region.” HMC Domestic Regional Headquarters at Ulsan also delivered 5 million won to the Ulsan Social Welfare Fund on February 23, to be spent on purchasing and distributing school supplies to children at the two local children centers. HMC Domestic Regional Headquarters at Ulsan had received the money last year when it was awarded as the Best Domestic Regional Headquarters of Hyundai Motor Company. Choi Gwang-seok, head of-HMC Domestic Regional Headquarters at Ulsan, explained the donation: “Without the support and encouragement from the locals of Ulsan, we would not have had such an honor, so we believed it was something all of our employees had to do to participate in the fundraising drive.” Kim Eok-jo, CEO of HMC, and Lee Gyeonghun, president of the HMC Metalworks Union, also delivered a combined total of 780 million won to the Ulsan Social Welfare Fund. The money is to be spent on helping out the poor, by providing lunch money for children of low-income households, creating a corps of social workers and welfare experts, distributing Korean rice cakes and gift certificates to be used in the local markets. HMC, together with its labor unions, also delivered 712 million won last year to the same organization.
