ICC takes delivery of new Hyundai fleet for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup

Dubai, UAE, 12 February 2013 – Hyundai Motor Company, the world’s fastest-growing automaker by brand, today handed over the keys to 18 of its premium Hyundai Genesis models to the International Cricket Council (ICC) as part of its on-going official partnership with the global governing body of the sport.

The vehicles will be used by the teams and tournament officials for the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup in the UAE, which takes place between the 14th February and 1st March 2014. The tournament will see the world’s best young cricketers representing 16 top teams from across the globe in a bid to be crowned world champions.

With stylish design, high-tech features and refined levels of comfort, the Genesis fleet will provide a comfortable way for the cricket teams, match officials and tournament staff to travel between the three emirates where the event will take place – Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

The official handover ceremony was held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium – the venue that will stage the Final of the tournament – and was attended by representatives from Hyundai and the ICC.

Tom Lee, Head of Hyundai Africa and Middle East Headquarters, commented: “Hyundai Motor has always had a strong affiliation with top-class sporting events and organisations, and the ICC is one of our most important partners. For the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, we wanted to once again offer the best of our range to the ICC to help them run what is sure to be another extremely successful event.”

David Richardson, ICC Chief Executive, was in attendance to officially receive the vehicles: “Hyundai Motor Company has been a valued ICC sponsor, and its enthusiastic involvement in the ICC Under-19 World Cup UAE 2014 highlights the on-going commitment to the current sponsorship which began back in 2011.  The Hyundai vehicles will, as always, provide tournament officials with quality and reliable transportation throughout the tournament.”

The ICC, which is based in Dubai, is the global governing body for international cricket. It encompasses men’s, women’s and youth participation and competition, and has 106 member countries across five continents.

Hyundai Motor Company signed a five-year deal with the ICC in 2011 to become an Official Partner. The agreement - which also covers the ICC World Twenty20, ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup - is part of Hyundai’s efforts to expand its global sports marketing activities and build brand awareness worldwide.

Hyundai is also the Official Automotive Partner for the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and is involved in a variety of other sports, including golf and ski jumping. As of January 2014, the brand also began its first ever challenge in the prestigious World Rally Championship.
