The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk is an annual event to raise funds for cancer research. In 2010, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) and its Team Members supported this worthy cause by donating more than $6,000. Aside from the monetary donations, over 50 Team Members and their families joined together on September 30, 2010 at the Montgomery Union Station Train Shed to show their enthusiasm and personal commitment to the success of the annual Light the Night Walk. Team members carried illuminated balloons that represented those who have survived, those who suffer from and those who have passed away from one of these diseases. A Santa Fe, featuring the Hope on Wheels hand prints, was also on display at the event.
HMMA is proud to be an annual sponsor of Light the Night and has increased its presence at this worthwhile event by increasing the number of participants from the 2009 event. Funds raised through the Light the Night Walk support the work of hundreds of the world’s best and brightest researchers for better therapies and cures for leukemia and lymphoma. Many people in the United States suffer from these diseases. Every five minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancers, while every nine minutes, someone dies from one of these diseases. Leukemia is the leading cause of disease-related death among young adults under age 20.
