X-BLE MEX:
When You Sculpt Life
With Technology

5 minute read

Every day, people around the world tune into the news to see what the weather will be like tomorrow. For one aspiring female weathercaster in Korea, her televised weather forecast not only showed tomorrow’s weather but also provided an inspiring look at how technology is helping people with disabilities for a better tomorrow.

More than a forecast

Weather forecasts are informational and even educational. On December 3rd, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Soomin proved that a weather forecast can be “inspirational”. For the 29-year-old weathercaster living with paraplegia, her one-day forecast was a tribute to the human spirit and the life-changing technology that enabled her to achieve this very special goal.

Everyone wants to know what the weather will be like so that they can make plans and prepare for the occasion. Will it rain, or will heatwaves or icy roads make mobility more difficult? All those with disabilities, especially rely on and watch these forecasts. For Soomin, the weather determines how easily she can move around in her wheelchair and the amount of assistance she might need. Becoming a weathercaster for a day was not only a dream job for her, but also a deeply personal choice.

Lights, camera, inspiration!

Soomin’s journey to the unforgettable moment when she stood to deliver the weather forecast was a long one. As always, her father was there. From the very beginning, he has been a source of inspiration, taking great pride in his daughter’s determination and strength. Her TV debut was just one of many efforts. Since her accident, Soomin has carved her own path, exploring new fields—from modeling and YouTube to reporting and acting. Her weather report was just another achievement, showing what’s possible with willpower and technology.

A father-daughter story

Reaching and achieving the goal of standing up to deliver the weather forecast is lovingly documented in the film “A Daughter’s Weather Forecast,” which follows Soomin’s daily life, her bond with her father, and the role technology plays in improving life and helping to set new goals.

Countless preparations – one big live moment.

In the film, Soomin’s journey unfolds over four months, showing her introduction to the Hyundai X-ble MEX and her growing proficiency with the device. With help from experts, physical therapists, and her father, the film illustrates how Soomin works to make the X-ble MEX feel like a natural extension of her movement — all building up to the big event.

As she nears her TV weather debut, she is shown minutes before going live. The usual busy atmosphere before the broadcast fades away, and her father looks at her affectionately and whispers: ‘Don’t worry. You’ll do great.’

Then the camera rolls, the lights turn on, and the intro music fills the set. Soomin stands proudly in front of a weather screen and, full of confidence, delivers the weather report, becoming an instant inspiration for viewers across the country and a spokesperson for greater representation of people with disabilities in the media. Her spirit and Hyundai’s X-ble MEX showcase how technology can be life-enhancing for everyday life and unforgettable moments.
