MONTREAL, Quebec (January 12, 2012) – Hyundai today introduced the refreshed 2013 Genesis Coupe in a Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show. In addition to significant performance upgrades, Genesis Coupe now sports more aggressive styling complemented by improved interior materials and design. Both 4-cylinder and V6 engines benefit from noteworthy technology enhancements, with the 3.8-litre V6 engine receiving sophisticated Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) and the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine upgrading to a more efficient twin-scroll turbocharger and larger intercooler. The available automatic transmission now boasts 8 speeds with a paddle-shift SHIFTRONIC® manual mode.

POWERTRAIN ENHANCEMENTS
Both Genesis Coupe engines receive significant technology upgrades, backing up the car’s new design statement with impressive performance gains. The 3.8-litre Lambda DOHC V6 engine adds sophisticated Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology, gaining 42 horsepower and 29 lb.-ft of torque. With these increases of 14 and 11 percent, respectively, peak horsepower climbs to 348 while peak torque is increased to 295 lb-ft on premium fuel. The Lambda’s anti-knock technology also gives this V6 the versatility to run on regular fuel. The new direct-injected engine will easily propel the Genesis Coupe from zero to 100 km/h in the lower five-second range on its way to an electronically-limited 240 km/h top speed. To further immerse the driver in the behind-the-wheel experience, the Lambda V6 now features an acoustically-tuned pathway transmitting engine sound from the intake tract directly into the cabin.
 
The 3.8-litre V6 utilizes Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) and a Variable Intake System (VIS) for efficient engine breathing and a broad power band. The combination of high-pressure, precisely-metered direct injection with efficient cylinder breathing results in outstanding throttle response and off-the-line acceleration coupled with remarkable fuel efficiency. The 3.8-litre V6 uses an alloy block and cylinder heads for lighter weight and increased thermal efficiency. A durable timing chain is used for maintenance-free peace-of-mind and quiet operation.
                                                               
All these technologies serve to give Genesis Coupe 3.8 an impressive weight-to-power ratio of only 4.5:1, significantly lower than the more expensive Infiniti G37 and BMW 335i.

Not to be outdone by its bigger brother, the turbocharged 2.0-litre Theta II DOHC inline four-cylinder substitutes a new exhaust manifold-integrated twin-scroll design for its turbocharger in addition to a larger intercooler with enhanced thermal efficiency. Hyundai’s twin-scroll turbocharger uses a unique, industry-first design to maximize performance and durability. In the Genesis Coupe 2.0T, the stainless steel exhaust manifold and turbocharger housing are now cast together in a one-piece design. The upshot of this patented design is a drastic reduction in weight and cost paired with improved durability for the turbocharger housing.
 
The twin-scroll design is more efficient at recovering exhaust energy and produces cooler cylinder temperatures than the former single-scroll design. What’s more, the twin-scroll is more precise, with improved combustion efficiency, reduced turbo lag, leaner air/fuel ratios, and more evenly distributed pressure in the exhaust ports. These characteristics result in more power, improved efficiency, and lower emissions. The larger intercooler further contributes to lower intake temperatures, providing a denser and cooler air charge from which to develop even greater output. This turbocharged engine also benefits from D-CVVT on both intake and exhaust camshafts.
 
The Genesis Coupe 2.0T now produces 274 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel, increases of 30 percent and 23 percent, respectively. As with the V6 and unlike many competitive turbo engines, the engine’s anti-knock sensors automatically adjust ignition timing and engine mapping to run perfectly on regular fuel with only a slight decrease in performance. The turbo engine also features a cast-aluminum cylinder block and head. All these improvements give the Genesis Coupe 2.0T a weight-to-power ratio of 5.6:1, superior to both the upcoming Scion FR-S sports coupe and the Honda Civic Si.

Both V6 and 4-cylinder engines also feature deeper, more baritone exhaust note to complement more efficient breathing on the intake side. To ensure that all this new power is evenly distributed to the pavement, Genesis Coupe also offers a Torsen® limited-slip differential on 2.0T R-Spec and 3.8 GT models.
 
AGGRESSIVE DESIGN CUES MATCH ENHANCED DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE
The refreshed Genesis Coupe sports a more menacing demeanour with an aggressively redesigned front fascia, grille, headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and hood. The side view reveals bold new 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs with deeper dimensional sculpting. New taillights with premium LED illumination and different contours add to the visual impact at the rear of the car. Remaining are the traditional rear-wheel drive sport coupe proportions, including a long wheelbase with short front and rear overhangs for a classic wedge-like profile. Genesis Coupe’s bodyside character line is an innovative “Z”-shaped design that integrates seamlessly with a unique, drop-beltline rear window graphic.
 
Genesis Coupe’s arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile, emphasizing the car’s broad shoulders and wide stance. To complete the high-performance sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized. 
 
In an example of form following function, enlarged openings in the front fascia allow for better engine breathing and a more intimidating look. Asymmetrical dual exhaust tips integrated with the blackout rear diffuser treatment drive home the performance message from the rear.
 
REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE ARCHITECTURE
Genesis Coupe’s body shell features extensive use of ultra-high tensile-strength steel. The rear-wheel drive powertrain configuration provides a well-balanced front-to-rear weight distribution of 55:45 for the 2.0T and 56:44 for the 3.8 GT model.
 
SPORT-TUNED SUSPENSION
To deliver a true sports car experience, Hyundai has ensured the Genesis Coupe’s chassis is an able partner for the powerful engines. Spring, damper, and bushing ratings all have been precisely recalibrated to match the increased engine output with better road feel, more precise body motion control, and improved ride comfort.
 
Genesis Coupe employs a MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension setup. The front suspension is mounted to the body via a solid subframe that is lighter and stronger than a comparable multi-piece component would be. To help reduce body roll and tune the Genesis Coupe’s at-the-limit handling for maximum predictability, 23-mm diameter front and 19-mm diameter rear stabilizer bars are fitted.
 
While all Genesis Coupe models offer a true rear-drive sports car experience, the high-performance Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec and 3.8 GT models raise the bar even higher with unique track-tuned suspension calibrations. The R-Spec/GT suspension features 7-percent firmer front spring rates and 11-percent firmer rear spring rates matched with re-calibrated damping rates. The Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec/3.8 GT models also deliver an increase in roll control over other versions of the Genesis Coupe by way of 1 mm thicker stabilizer bars front and rear. For 2013, all Genesis Coupes receive improved low-velocity-control dampers for refined ride comfort coupled with improved body control.
 
STEERING
The hydraulic RPM-sensing rack-and-pinion steering has been recalibrated with an even quicker 13.8:1 ratio. This new steering ratio is a full 7-percent quicker than the previous model, yielding increased steering precision and more intuitive response. To further optimize driver ergonomics, telescopic steering adjustment also has been added to the tilt function for 2013.
 
TRANSMISSIONS
Both engines are mated to standard six-speed manual transmissions which have been extensively refined to provide better shift gating and balanced weight. The clutch take-up, feel, and engagement characteristics have also been adjusted for optimum shifting ease and feel. Both engines now offer an in-house-developed eight-speed automatic with paddle-shift SHIFTRONIC® manual mode. Each transmission has been specifically tuned to match the engines’ unique power and torque curve characteristics.
HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKING SYSTEMS  
Fixed Brembo® four-piston calipers clamp down on fade-resistant 13.4-inch ventilated front rotors and 13-inch ventilated rear rotors on both 2.0T R-Spec and 3.8 GT models. All other models feature 12.6-inch front ventilated rotors and 12.4-inch rear rotors with floating single-piston calipers.
 
UPSCALE INTERIOR REFINEMENT
The interior of the 2013 Genesis Coupe has been enhanced with premium features and design cues. The dashboard now incorporates a stitched-seam appearance for a distinctly upscale look and the parking brake lever is leather-wrapped on the 3.8 GT model. The instrument cluster now features electroluminescent gauges for a premium ambiance and superior at-a-glance readability. A new driver-side walk-in assist function has been added for more convenient rear seat access from the driver’s side. Convenient seatbelt guides make it easier for front passengers to buckle up.
 
Driver seat power lumbar support is now available and front seatback pockets are standard on all Genesis Coupes. A centre stack multi-gauge cluster with instant fuel economy, torque level (3.8 GT models) or turbocharger boost pressure (2.0T models), and oil temperature is standard on all trims. A centre fascia tray with cover has been added for greater storage while interior surfaces now have a softer touch with lower sheen for a more up-market feel. Sport front seats with deep side bolsters offer superb lateral support for enthusiastic driving in all trim configurations.
 
Music lovers will appreciate the Genesis Coupe’s standard iPod / USB / auxiliary connectivity. Other premium features include an available Infinity® premium audio system, two-stage front seat heaters, and proximity keyless entry with push-button ignition.
SEGMENT-LEADING STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES
In keeping with Hyundai’s focus on offering segment-leading standard safety technologies across its line-up, the 2013 Genesis Coupe includes a wide range of active and passive safety features. Standard safety technology includes driver and front passenger advanced frontal airbags along with front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints.
Genesis Coupe offers Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights for brighter illumination intensity, more daylight-like lighting character, and reduced power consumption. In addition, the visual cut lines of these HID headlights are razor sharp, providing maximum night-time visibility for the driver without the risk of blinding oncoming traffic.
 
All Genesis Coupe models feature standard four-channel ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to optimize brake performance under various dynamic loading conditions. The system also includes Brake Assist, which provides maximum ABS-level braking force when a panic stop is detected.
 
 In a nod to enthusiasts, 2013 Genesis Coupe now offers a specially-tuned three-stage driver-selectable Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. This new three-stage ESC function offers more options for specific driver preferences and road conditions:
 
  1. Full-on ESC function (default mode on start-up)
  2. Intermediate ESC function with driver powertrain override control and retained ESC/TCS braking function
  3. Full-off ESC function for uninhibited driver vehicle control in all conditions
 
The driver-selectable full-off ESC mode has been included for drivers who wish to participate in competitive events such as autocrosses or track days. The Genesis Coupe anti-lock braking system function (ABS) remains fully functional in all ESC modes to help drivers maintain steering control under adverse braking conditions.
