Hyundai’s Volunteer Program Builds Houses,
Makes Donation in Brazil
- South Korean university students promote mutual understanding and goodwill between Brazil and Korea through volunteer work

(Sao Paolo, Brazil) Students from Hyundai Motor Company’s `Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers’ program are taking part in an 11-day volunteer program in Brazil.
100 university students from `Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers’ program are engaging in volunteer activities ranging from building houses, fixing facilities to carrying out cultural exchange experiences at the city of Sao Paulo and Piracicaba between Jan. 20~30.
In Sao Paulo, the students will work with Brazil Habitat to provide homes for 200 poor households as part of the COLINAS DA OESTE project. For a week, students will help paint the inside and outside of buildings and erect walls, among other things.
On Jan. 25, volunteers held a ceremony to deliver Hyundai Motor’s USD100,000 donation to the Brazil Habitat at Bairro jaragua in Sao Paulo. During the ceremony, students had the opportunity to introduce Korean traditional culture while watching the Brazilian Samba dance. The event was attended by over 200 residents and expected-residents from COLINAS DA OESTE’s project, local Hyundai dealers and Mr. Han Chang-Hwan, Hyundai Motor’s Senior Vice President in charge of the Americas.
After finishing the house-building works of Habitat, students will move to the city of Piracicaba, the venue of Hyundai’s upcoming manufacturing plant, and carry out volunteer works, including fixing and rebuilding welfare facilities for the handicapped and the elderly and spending recreational time with them. Culture exchange programs are also in store to promote the friendly relations between the two countries.
On the last day, Jan 30, students will deliver Hyundai Motor’s donation of about USD 55,000* (100,000 BRL) to the city of Piracicaba and show off Korean traditional cultures, including traditional dance, Daedongnori (a traditional game to strengthen unity), Taekwon martial arts, and Samulnori (a traditional Korean folk music). The donation event will be attended by more than 1,000 local residents, the mayor of Piracicaba, local politicians, and Mr. Kim, Seong-Bae, Senior Vice President of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Brazil, Hyundai Motor Company.
The `Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers’ program is part of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group’s social responsibility initiative in which university students are dispatched overseas to lend a helping hand in disadvantaged areas. This program sends about 1,000 university student volunteers to different corners of the globe every year.
Hyundai plans to continue various volunteer work in Brazil to fulfil its duty as a good global corporate citizen.
