March 13, 2017 – Hyundai Motor has claimed two awards in the acclaimed iF DESIGN AWARD 2017, winning categories for its new corporate typography and stylish electric vehicle charger. The ‘Hyundai Sans’ font won the Typography / Signage category as judges praised its warm and confident form, while the ‘IONIQ Home Charger’ impressed with its clean, intuitive design.
In considering the design form of Hyundai Sans – Hyundai Motor’s bespoke typeface – the 58-strong iF DESIGN AWARD jury took account of the way it reflects Hyundai Motor’s human-centric approach in caring for its customers. Before its launch in 2016, Hyundai Sans underwent a 12-month process of development and evolution as part of the company’s global brand identity renewal.
Today, the font is used for all Hyundai Motor communications across the world, in 103 languages. Hyundai Motor’s creative team worked to reflect the brand’s essence and to bring harmony between soft curves as well as refined straight lines in the font.
Recognition for the IONIQ electric vehicle charger coincides with Hyundai Motor’s intensified focus on innovative, eco-friendly technologies. Setting out to find new and environmentally-considerate ways to enhance the lives of its customers, Hyundai Motor’s first electric vehicle charger is designed to complement its IONIQ electric and IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.
For use at home or in public-charging locations, the pure white color – which is the identifying color for IONIQ-line – is a metaphor for living in a brilliant world full of potential, innovation and creativity, and uses the same materials applied in the actual IONIQ models. The iF DESIGN AWARD judges appreciated the subtle design language shown with the gently-pulsating charging light and welcoming user greetings that support Hyundai Motor’s care for its customers.
For more than 60 years, iF DESIGN AWAR has been recognized across the world as a symbol of design excellence. Organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH, the awards celebrate outstanding design across various disciplines and categories. All award entries are featured in the iF World Design Guide, and are displayed at the iF design exhibition in Hamburg.
