‘Hyundai Young Player Award’ Shortlist Announced

July 11, 2014 – With only two more spectacular matches left, FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) today announced the three final nominees for the ‘Hyundai Young Player Award’ of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. While this year’s award is open to all participating players who were born on or after 1 January 1993, the final winner will be selected by the FIFA TSG and announced on after the final match.
Nominees for the Hyundai Young Player Award at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™:

All three of the young players shortlisted today have demonstrated exceptional skills during the tournament as well as youthful and refreshing playing styles combined with tactical maturity. More specifically, the following criteria were considered by FIFA TSG to finalize the shortlist.

• Youthful and refreshing playing style
• Creativity and inspiration
• Tactical maturity and efficiency
• Fan recognition through entertaining performances
• Role model for young players
• Positive attitude and fair play
The emergence of young footballing talent on the world stage is one of the joys of any FIFA World Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ is no exception. These burgeoning young stars may have been relatively unknown before the opening ceremony in Sao Paulo, but there is little doubt that the three nominated for the prestigious Hyundai Young Player Award shortlist can become household names for many years to come.
First awarded in 2006, the Hyundai Young Player Award is one of the official FIFA awards and is selected by the Technical Study Group, a FIFA-appointed group of top football coaches, former players and analysts. Those past two awards were coincidentally both handed out to German players (Lukas Podolski in 2006 and Thomas Muller in 2010).
Fans can further enjoy it by participating in the ‘Hyundai Young Player Predictor,’ which opens today, on website ( Participants need to make their prediction before the final whistle on 13 July, and 30 lucky winners among those who predict correctly, will be chosen to receive prizes.
