From June 18 through June 22, Piracicaba, a town located in the state of Sao Paolo in Brazil, hosted the 28th Annual Multicultural Festival, with the theme of Brazil as a Land of Complex Culture. The festival, organized by immigrant groups making up Brazilian society to introduce their traditional customs and cultures, drew participation from immigrants from 13 countries, including Korea, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, the U.S., the Netherlands, Mexico, Cuba, Japan, Spain, Lebanon, and Brazil. This year’s festival was also sponsored in part by HMC, which is currently building a plant in the city. Piracicaba, along with Campinas and St. Carlos, forms the ‘multiethnic triangle’ in which immigrants from all parts of the world live and interact with one another. It is one of the most representative regions of Brazil’s multicultural heritage.
HMC, as it plans to operate a plant in the town, has localized its corporate social responsibility programs to suit the needs of the local society, making an environment in which both the company and the local community can grow together.
