SEOUL, November 20, 2020— Hyundai Motor Company will launch ‘Hyundai Art+Tech Program’ in partnership with Yuz Museum Shanghai (YUZ), offering diverse public programs centered on exploring the creative relationships between art and technology.

As a unique public offering by Hyundai Motor, ‘Hyundai Art+Tech Program’ will run November 22, 2020 – February 2021 at YUZ, following Shanghai Art Week (November 11–15).

“Hyundai Motor Company has striven to contribute to the growth of China’s art and culture scenes steadily over the years, starting with Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing,” said Cornelia Schneider, Vice President and Head of Global Experiential Marketing. “The ‘Hyundai Art+Tech Program’ in partnership with YUZ will be a platform for art lovers to experience and appreciate the boundless possibilities of art and to discuss humanity’s potential for a sustainable future.”

The first segment of this year’s Hyundai-YUZ partnership comprises a series of public-oriented programs, including:

  • · ‘Curator in Conversation’ (November 22): Curator Iris Long leads a panel discussion on the impact of artificial intelligence on art and human behavior with artists, authors, curators and AI scientists and specialists
  • · ‘A+T Festival: Night at the Museum’ (December 2020 – February 2021): Young people can enjoy entertainment, music and dance, visual performances, food and beverage in the museum’s gallery hall in December
  • · ‘A+T Art Workshops’ (December 2020 – February 2021): People of all ages can participate in producing and experiencing art
  • · ‘A+T Family Program’ (December 2020 – February 2021): Families with young children can participate in interactive digital artworks and hands-on activities

“We are thrilled by Hyundai Motor Company’s continued support for the Yuz Museum and look forward to this opportunity to deepen our visitors’ understanding of the juncture of creativity and innovation with this new public program series,” said Justine Alexandria, Yuz Museum CEO. “Through a myriad of experiences and thematic points of entry, audiences will experience a new type of participation over the course of the Art+Tech Program.”

The second segment of the partnership is ‘Lying Sophia and Mocking Alexa – A Collaboration with Hyundai Blue Prize’, November 14, 2020 – January 31, 2021, an exhibition exploring the possibilities of human-machine relationships via AI. Curated by Iris Long, the winner of Hyundai Blue Prize 2018 that annually awards up-and-coming inspirational curators, the exhibition investigates the impact of technological change on human consciousness and society through texts and sounds generated by an AI program. Its affiliated program is the aforementioned ‘Curator in Conversation’ panel discussion. The exhibition was previously held at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing in the 798 Art District in 2019.

The third segment of the partnership is ‘The Abode of Illusions: The Garden of Zhang Daqian’, November 11, 2020 – April 11, 2021, an exhibition featuring photographs by Hu Chongxian (1912-1989) with calligraphy inscriptions by Chinese painter Zhang Daqian (1899-1983). Zhang was one of the first modern Chinese painters to recognize photography’s potential as an expressive medium, and as such, the exhibition showcases rare depictions of Zhang’s private garden outside Taipei in a unique collaboration between the photography and the painter.
