Hyundai Motor Provides New Mobile-based
Global Vehicle Diagnostics System to Service Workshops

  • Hyundai Motor introduces Global Diagnostics System-Mobile (GDS-Mobile), with real-time updates from the company’s central database through internet connection
  • The world’s first mobile-based diagnostics system will enhance customer satisfaction at its global aftersales network

June 5, 2014 – Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, has announced details of the world’s first mobile-based Global Diagnostics System-Mobile (GDS-Mobile), an up-to-date version of the company’s vehicle diagnostics tool. The new system is expected to significantly improve the quality of customer services at its aftersales network worldwide.

Through the mobile-based ‘total diagnostic solution,’ designed and optimized for use on mobile tablet devices, Hyundai Motor’s trained technicians can handle vehicle repairs more quickly and effectively. They can identify faults with vehicles through wireless connectivity and Bluetooth® support, and also freely move around a vehicle with the tablet devices, as the system does not require a wire to connect to a vehicle. With the previous system, they had to return to a fixed heavy diagnostic computer or move a cart around the workshop.

With a growing level of advanced, high-tech equipment found in many Hyundai vehicles, GDS-Mobile’s new vehicle software management technology allows technicians to quickly and easily check and update every electronic system in the car. Both vehicle and service information on the regional server -transferred to the mobile device - is updated in real time, from a central database housed in Hyundai Motor’s global headquarters in Seoul, Korea.

As well as boosting service efficiency and quality of maintenance and repair work, the system will also cost Hyundai Motor’s dealers substantially less than existing diagnostics systems. A clearer interface – and touch-screen functionality – will make the system easier to use.
