• May sales increase 5.7% year-on-year led by strong SUV sales
• Company shows sales growth three months in a row
SEOUL, June 1, 2018 – Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest automaker, today announced its global sales results for May 2018, posting a total of 387,017 units sold, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier.
The consecutive growth was led by strong sales of new SUV models, the all-new Santa Fe and Kona.
Sales in overseas market totaled 325,121 units, representing an increase of 6.4 percent year-over-year, due in large part to Hyundai Motor’s latest SUV addition, Kona. A recent sales recovery in the Chinese market and strong sales in emerging markets such as Brazil and Russia also contributed to the increase.
Sales in Korea increased by 2.1 percent compared with the same period of the previous year, recording 61,896 units sold. The all-new Santa Fe became the best-selling model in Korea for the third consecutive month.
Hyundai Motor plans to keep its sales momentum by accelerating the rollout of SUV models in major markets including US, where all-new Santa Fe is scheduled to be launched in summer this year.
