May 16, 2017 – Hyundai Motor Company, the official automotive partner of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017, has issued FIFA with a fleet of 123 vehicles ahead of the biennial international tournament, which kicks off on May 20.

A special handover ceremony took place at the Suwon World Cup Stadium, one of the six venues across Korea– and also the location for the tournament’s final match. Officials and executives from Hyundai Motor and FIFA attended the event to officially hand over the official vehicles that will assist in the smooth running of the tournament.

“We are proud to support the passion and dedication of the next generation of football players by providing a range of vehicles to assist with the smooth operation of the tournament,” said Scott Noh, head of Overseases Marketing Group at Hyundai Motor. “We will do our best to make the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 a spectacular celebration of youth football by supporting these remarkable young athletes and their fans with exceptional transport.”

The FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 will be held during May and June in six cities in Korea, featuring 24 under-20 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. Included in the 123 vehicles provided to the committee are Genesis G90 (EQ900 in Korea), the all-new Hyundai Grandeur (also known as Azera), the H-1 (Starex in Korea), as well as commercial vehicles such as the Hyundai Porter, to be used by FIFA and Local Organizing Committee (LOC) officials, referees and organizational staff.

Hyundai Motor first signed an agreement to sponsor FIFA competitions in 1999 and has since successfully served as the official automotive partner of the 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 FIFA World Cups as well as many other FIFA tournaments. In 2010, the company extended its strategic sponsorship agreement with FIFA to cover the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. Through its sponsorship of international football and other sports, Hyundai Motor has boosted brand awareness and brand image significantly.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup is held every two years, with this summer’s tournament the 21st competition since its inception in 1977 as the FIFA World Youth Championship. Korea and 23 other teams, that qualified from six separate continental competitions, will compete in the competition, which concludes on June 11 in Suwon.
