Hyundai Names erwin raphael director of product quality and service engineering


FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 10, 2010 Hyundai Motor America Executive Vice President of Corporate Planning and Customer Satisfaction Frank Ferrara today named Erwin Raphael director of product quality and service engineering. Raphael is a 20-year industry veteran, most recently serving as director of mass production quality for Chrysler. In his role with Hyundai, he will lead development and implementation of product quality strategy to improve both the initial quality of Hyundai models and vehicle durability. He will report directly to Ferrara.  

             “Erwin has a proven track record of driving down warranty repairs and improving overall vehicle quality for major automakers, and his experience will only elevate Hyundai’s leading initial quality scores and customer satisfaction rankings,” said Ferrara. “His addition indicates our relentless focus on quality; we’re adding even more experience to a team that has already elevated Hyundai to the top of the industry in several key metrics.”

             Raphael spent nearly a decade with Chrysler (previously DaimlerChrysler) in vehicle engineering, plant management and key quality assurance roles. Other key automotive industry positions included senior roles with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana and Navistar International Transportation Corporation. He is a graduate of Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry/Math and a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as an engineer.
