BHMC became an official supporter of the 31st Beijing International Marathon, which started at 9 a.m. on October 16, local time. The Beijing Marathon, which began in 1981, is one of the most prestigious international marathon competitions, and its history closely overlaps with the increasing liberalization of China. As an official sponsor of the competition, BHMC provided the necessary vehicles. In supporting the Beijing Marathon, BHMC sought to convey an image of itself as a company contributing to the improvement of the health and the quality of life for all citizens. 500 winners of an online campaign run by BHMC, including customers and employees, were also invited to watch the marathon. VicePresident Seol Yeong-hong in charge of HMC’s operations in China and CEO Roh Jae-man of BHMC also ran for 5 kilometers along with other marathoners.
On October 1, over 5,000 people participated in the 3rd Montgomery Half-Marathon in Montgomery, Alabama, officially supported by HMMA. The day’s competition consisted of three different tracks: the 21.1km-long half-marathon course; the 5km course; and the Mayor’s Mile. The half-marathon course was officially approved by the USA Track and Field this year. The competition is part of the anti-breast cancer campaign organized by Joy to Life, a foundation that encourages free-of-charge breast cancer prevention and diagnostic programs for women under the age of 50 who live in the 29 counties of south-central Alabama and who are often overlooked by the medical system due to their financial dif culties. The half-marathon promotes the public wareness of October as the Month of Fighting Breast Cancer. Participants were able to enjoy barbecue and music afterward.
