Targa Tasmania’s most efficient competitor
Hyundai Motor Company Australia will have its first factory backed entrant in the Targa Tasmania Rally, with the multi-award winning i30 CRDi turbo diesel on the start line for 2010.
Rally veteran of fifteen years, Razvan Vlad, who has had success for Hyundai in consecutive Targa West rallies in 2008 and 2009, will team up with navigator Ioana Vlad to compete in this year’s Targa Tasmania Rally.
Competing in the Showroom Class, Vlad believes the i30 CRDi turbo diesel, the most fuel efficient vehicle in the competition, is a perfect fit for his driving style and the challenging course.
“I know the i30 inside and out. It is a very balanced car, with excellent brakes and an advanced Variable Geometry Turbo engine. It has been 100% reliable and I know it won’t disappoint,” said Vlad. “The production standard Australian suspension and steering set-up is a great match for the course, whilst its green diesel engine also reduces the vehicle’s impact on the environment.”
Ian Juster, Hyundai’s Regional General Manager said “The i30 has already proven itself with class victories in Targa West over the past two years and with a raft of awards under its belt, Targa Tasmania is just another way i30 can continue to demonstrate its credibility and reliability.”
The i30 CRDi turbo diesel will run as production standard, with the exception of upgraded brake pads and safety requirements to meet competition regulations, with Genuine Hyundai Accessories including alloy wheels and a rear spoiler fitted to the vehicle.
Race support and technicians will be provided by Motors Hyundai, the Tasmanian Hyundai Dealership Group. “Targa Tasmania is a great way for our professional team of Hyundai technicians to get behind the brand and to gain valuable experience in a competitive environment,” said Dale Fraser from Motors Hyundai. “The team are keen to get involved in front of their home crowd.”
Behind the wheel of the fun, fast and economical i30 CRDi turbo diesel, Razvan Vlad will no doubt be concentrating on getting the most out of the car whilst leaving the smallest carbon footprint of any competitor in the rally.
