Eighth Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers Corps Launched

The Eighth HMC Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers Corps was launched on December 27 at the company building in Yangjae. The company announced on that day that the 500 members of the Eighth Corps will be dispatched overseas during January 2012, and will engage in volunteer works and other activities of cultural exchange until midFebruary in China, India, Brazil, Laos, and Indonesia. The volunteers will spend two weeks on average at their respective posts abroad. Specifically, they will participate in building houses for the poor in and around Shanghai, China; developing a model village and providing medical care in Chennai, India; reconstructing the housing in poor areas in Brazil; and building the houses and community facilities for the poor in Laos; and building houses in the poor villages in Indonesia, and so forth, in addition to activities of cultural exchange.

Over 15,000 applicants flocked to the competition for selecting the participants of the Eighth Corps. Preferences were given to financially struggling university and college students, 44 children of victims of car accidents, and young people on the social welfare payroll who have relatively fewer chances of going abroad for volunteer activities.
