Hyundai announces Record Sales for 2010

Prague, 7 January 2011

  • For the first time, Hyundai has sold over 10,000 cars in a single year in the Czech Republic
  • Every 16th car sold last year was a Hyundai
  • Hyundai’s market share has increased year-on-year by 20%
  • The Hyundai i30 is the best selling model of its class in the Czech Republic for the first time (beating its competitors, the VW Golf, Ford Focus and Kia Ceed)
  • Hyundai has once again proven that it is a strong domestic manufacturer

Official data about vehicle registrations in the Czech Republic for 2010 has confirmed that the popularity of Hyundai vehicles among Czech customers has increased significantly in the last year. Hyundai is therefore systematically improving its share of the Czech market step by step. The recent vigorous growth in sales can also be seen in the fact that while 2009 had 8682 Hyundai vehicles registered, last year sales exceeded ten thousand for the first time, of which 10,088 were cars and 103 light commercial vehicles.

The year-on-year increase is 1509 vehicles, which is the highest of all the imported brands. For almost all of the second half of last year, Hyundai was an equal competitor in sales of the strongest four of the most successful importers, and in October, for instance, achieved an excellent second place behind the domestic Škoda brand, and ended up in the first place among importers for the first time in its history.

Hyundai therefore made a major step forward last year in achieving its ambitious target, to become the leading brand on the Czech market. Less than a tenth of the current volumes were sold in 1993, a mere 951 vehicles, and in 2000 sales of Hyundai vehicles were at 1342, which was only enough to place it seventeenth in the domestic brand rankings.

The fact that the Hyundai i30 became the best sold foreign car model last year for the first time can also be considered a great success. In total, 4309 were sold. Also, the compact SUV, the ix35, with sales of 1197 vehicles, is in the top three most successful in its category.

“Understandably, I am very pleased with the business results for 2010, and I believe there is still a lot more that we can do. They confirm that we at Hyundai are following the right path, which we started upon some time ago, and it is clear that Czech customers can appreciate both the quality and utility of our products, as well as our after-sale benefits. From this I want to stress the unique Triple 5 programme, which includes a five-year vehicle warranty, five years of roadside assistance and a five-year vehicle health check”, said Vladimír Vošický, Business Operations Director at Hyundai Motor Czech, continuing that, “If we compare last year’s sales results with 2009, then Hyundai is one of the few brands achieving a year-on-year increase in sales of 17.4% and more than a one per cent increase in market share from 4.79% to 5.96%.”

Historically, a total of 85,000 Hyundai vehicles have been sold in the Czech Republic and the total number of all Hyundai vehicles registered in the country is now coming up to one hundred thousand vehicles.
