In an effort to facilitate the rescue of victims of the recent earthquake in Turkey and the country’s reconstruction, Hyundai has decided to donate US$300,000.
Turkey occupies an important place in Hyundai’s global production system. In 2009, for instance, Hyundai became the best-selling brand in the Turkish passenger vehicle market. The Hyundai of?ce in Turkey is also quite active in the local CSR scene. In addition, Hyundai has been providing financial aid since 2004 through its Hyundai Torches Project for financially struggling, academically exemplar students. The company also provides support and assistance for the physically disabled, providing special vehicles for local social service organizations for the disabled and providing ?nancial support for the Association of Culture, Sports, and Scholarship for the Disabled.
Hyundai donated $230,000 to Turkey back in 1999 when the country was also hit by a major earthquake. The company has been active in providing the money and other goods and services necessary for rescue and reconstruction in other disaster-stricken regions, including Iran, Southeast Asia, the United States, Indonesia, Greece, Szechuan in China, Haiti, Chile, Indonesia, and Japan.
