Hyundai Elantra scores Car of the Year hat trick
For the third time this year the all-new Hyundai Elantra has been named “2012 Car of the Year”, this time in South Africa. The car won the award in the prestigious annual competition of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) and WesBank.
2012 has already turned out to be an award winning year for the all-new Elantra: In January, at the Detroit Motor Show, the Elantra was also announced as the North American Car of the Year; and it also won the overall prize in the Canadian Car of the Year competition in February.
The all-new Elantra – Hyundai’s big small car with its exciting and eye-catching “fluidic sculpture” styling with a driving experience to match – was announced as the winner at the SAGMJ and WesBank’s Car of the Year event.
It is the first time that a Korean car has been awarded the South African Car of the Year prize however in 2011 Hyundai had two finalists, the ix35 and i45, whilst the i20 was a finalist in the 2010.
