Hyundai reveals higher levels of smartphone-car connectivity

At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Hyundai will reveal its vision of a more connected future by demonstrating how the heightened integration of smartphones and Hyundai vehicles can benefit owners and drivers.
For this innovative connectivity concept, run in partnership with LG, Hyundai is using a New Generation i30 three-door model to show how its vehicles will use smartphones as an integral component, delivering a more practical, personalised and enjoyable motoring experience.
The Hyundai app allows owners to remotely connect with their vehicles, checking if the windows and sunroof are open or closed, and prepare for the next journey by checking the car’s fuel level and driving range. Using details of the car’s location, they can also plan for the next journey – or receive a useful reminder of where they parked the car.
The smartphone used in Hyundai’s connectivity project can unlock the doors and automatically personalise the vehicle’s settings, including adjusting electric seat and mirror positions, and altering radio station presets, navigation settings, menu appearance and other preferences.
When placed in a specific area of the centre console, the smartphone is charged wirelessly, removing the need for and unsightly cables in the cabin.
The system exclusively, and for the first time in the world, features wireless MirrorLink, which allows the driver to access and use the smartphone’s content using the i30’s 7-inch touch screen. The driver or passenger can access the mobile device’s navigation functions, internet-based apps such as email, contacts and phone call lists, and multimedia content such as videos.
