There were new editions to our fleet in 2021, as the Elantra N TCR joined our already established challengers: the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR. Hyundai Motorsport customers continued to demonstrate their competitiveness, taking numerous titles, wins and podiums all over the world.

PURE ETCR

Setting the benchmark for electric racing.

Hyundai Motorsport made its electric racing debut in the inaugural PURE ETCR season with the Veloster N ETCR. In a closely-fought battle, we narrowly missed out on the drivers’ crown by a single point.

Hyundai Motorsport compeeted in PURE ETCR with its new all-electric high-performance touring car, the VELOSTERN ETCR. It heralded an exciting new era for Hyundai, which will see electric racing become one of the pillars of the company. 

Competing in the PURE ETCR marks the latest step in Hyundai's quest to make motorsport (and mobility in general) greener.

An exciting lineup.

All TCR cars are based on front-wheel drive C-Segment hatchbacks or sedans, powered by production–based turbo engines with a capacity of up to 2 litres. Our foray into circuit racing started with the i30 N TCR. The VELOSTER N TCR and the ELANTRA N TCR have since joined our roster and we opened an exciting new chapter with our first-ever electric racing car, the VELOSTER N ETCR.

Hyundai VELOSTER N ETCR.

In September 2019, Hyundai Motorsport unveiled the newest addition to its race car range and its first-ever electric race car: the VELOSTER N ETCR. 

The car capitalises on Hyundai Motorsport’s expertise in touring car racing, and is built alongside the i20 R5, the i30 N TCR and the VELOSTER N TCR at the team’s headquarters in Alzenau, Germany.

The design phase of the VELOSTER N ETCR began in November 2018, with the first test completed in August 2019. The car heralds an exciting new era for the Hyundai Motorsport as electric racing becomes one of the pillars of the company.

The VELOSTER N ETCR is a fully-electric, rear-wheel-drive with a mid-mounted motor.

Hyundai i30 N TCR.

The i30 N TCR represented Hyundai Motorsport’s first steps into circuit racing, and entrance into one of the fastest growing categories in motorsport. 

The design phase began in September 2016, with the first completed test car running in April 2017. The car immediately proved its performance – winning the first race of the inaugural FIA WTCR season in 2018, and finishing with customer teams taking both the drivers’ and teams’ titles.

The success continued from there. Customers added a second consecutive drivers’ crown in 2019, a season when Hyundai teams won titles in eight different series, spread over four continents.

Hyundai VELOSTER N TCR.

In 2019, Hyundai Motorsport increased its TCR offering with the launch of the Hyundai VELOSTER N TCR – a car sharing much of the championship winning formula of the very successful i30 N TCR.  Following demand from the USA touring car scene, this was packaged in the VELOSTER N model to reflect Hyundai’s automotive range in the region. 

The first competitive appearance of the VELOSTER N TCR was at Daytona in January 2019. It proved to be the start of a very successful year, as customers took first and second in the final points’ standings in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, as well as race wins in the sprint-format TC America championship.

Hyundai ELANTRA N TCR.

Revealed for the first time at the Beijing Motor Show in 2020 the ELANTRA N TCR marked the expansion of Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing’s range of TCR cars.

Design work started from a blank sheet of paper in the second half of 2019, allowing Hyundai Motorsport’s designers and engineers to capitalize on the expertise gained from three years’ work with the i30 N TCR and VELOSTER N TCR. The approach allowed them to carry across the many strengths of the other racing Hyundai, while also presenting the opportunity to improve on the existing designs where possible.
