SEOUL, July 30, 2026 – Hyundai Motor Group (The Group) launched its 2026 Happy Move Global Youth Volunteer Program, dispatching 200 Korean university students to Indonesia and Vietnam this summer.

Working alongside NGO partners and university peers from both countries, participants are delivering hands-on community projects focused on housing, education, and environmental sustainability. Spanning three separate dispatches, activities run from July 12 through August 16 across sites in Indonesia and Vietnam.

What Is Happy Move?

Established in 2008, Happy Move has mobilized more than 13,000 university students across 24 countries over nearly two decades. The program gives young people the opportunity to engage directly with communities beyond their own — learning through volunteering, building cross-cultural connections, and developing a sense of shared responsibility.

The Group has maintained a significant manufacturing and business presence in both Indonesia and Vietnam for many years. The 2026 program builds on that presence by working alongside NGO partners and government stakeholders to address community needs.

What Are Volunteers Working On, and Why Does It Matter?

In Indonesia, volunteers are working with families and schools in the greater Jakarta area — providing housing construction, sanitation improvements, and education support. Volunteer activities are designed in alignment with the country’s national affordable housing agenda, which targets the construction of three million homes annually. The program also addresses environmental priorities, with activities focused on urban greening, climate awareness, and sustainable waste practices.

In Vietnam, volunteers are working alongside families and children in Hai Phong, a key trade hub in northern Vietnam, to directly address local educational needs. Activities focus on improving school facilities and expanding access to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, in line with the Vietnamese government’s national curriculum priorities.

Across both countries, the Group is working in close partnership with local and international NGOs to ensure volunteer activities are grounded in the specific needs of each community.

What Have Volunteers Done, and What Comes Next?

Indonesia, Round 1 (July 12–20 | Habitat for Humanity | Rajeg, Tangerang)

  • Housing construction, interactive learning programs for local children, visit to Hyundai Motor Studio and Hyundai N Brand Experience Center

Vietnam (July 26–August 3 | World Vision | Hai Phong)

  • STEAM and oral hygiene education; school library construction and mural painting; visit to Hyundai Thanh Cong Motor Vietnam (HTMV)

Indonesia, Round 2 (August 7–16 | Plan International | North Jakarta)

  • School renovation, urban greening, and climate and waste education; visit to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI)

In both countries, local university students from Indonesia and Vietnam join Korean participants as co-volunteers, making the program a genuine two-way exchange.

How Does Happy Move Reflect Hyundai Motor Group's Approach to Social Contribution?

I hope this will be a meaningful time to learn the value of sharing on the ground and to understand cultures different from your own. Volunteering is not simply an act of generosity, but a process of personal growth. I hope Happy Move gives each of you new perspectives and a deeper sense of confidence.

Sung Kim

President of Strategy & Planning, Hyundai Motor Group

As Happy Move approaches its 20th anniversary, Hyundai Motor Group continues to invest in the people and communities where the Group operates — through education, housing, and environmental action.
