The inauguration of HMIL’s Pune manufacturing facility represents a key milestone in Hyundai Motor Group (the Group)’s long-term commitment to India. Located in Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra, the facility strengthens HMIL’s manufacturing footprint while supporting the Group’s broader strategy to expand production, localization and exports from India.
The Pune plant begins operations with an annual installed production capacity of 170,000 units. Capacity is planned to expand in phases to 320,000 units by 2030.
With the Pune plant, the Group has established comprehensive production capacity of more than 1.4 million vehicles annually across India, encompassing HMIL's existing facilities in Chennai (824,000 units capacity) and Kia India's Anantapur plant (431,000 units capacity). As Pune's capacity is scheduled to be scaled up in phases, the Group's India manufacturing footprint will continue to expand.
The facility features flexible production systems capable of supporting multiple vehicle models, including internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid vehicles in the future, ensuring adaptability to evolving market demands.
The Pune plant will manufacture the all-new Hyundai VENUE exclusively for global markets, with exports planned to expand to more than 35 countries. This will further reinforce India’s role as an important global export hub for Hyundai Motor Group.
Along with the inauguration, HMIL also celebrated the achievement of cumulative exports of 4 million passenger vehicles from India since 1999. HMIL is cumulatively the largest exporter of passenger vehicles and the first automobile manufacturer to achieve the milestone of 4 million exports from India.

The inauguration of our Pune plant marks the beginning of HMIL’s next chapter of growth in India. We will invest INR 11,000 crore in phases at this facility. Beyond expanding manufacturing capacity, the facility will drive industrial development, innovation and employment generation in the region. Supporting this vision is a strong regional supplier ecosystem, with 55 supplier partners having already invested nearly INR 4,600 crore in the state. Together with tier-II vendors, the ecosystem has created more than 18,000 employment opportunities in Maharashtra, reinforcing the region’s emergence as a key automotive manufacturing hub. As we celebrate 30 years in India, we remain committed to creating long-term value for our customers, partners and communities.
Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited
The Pune facility inauguration coincides with Hyundai Motor's 30th anniversary in India. Since entering the country in 1996, beginning with the Hyundai SANTRO, Hyundai Motor has built a strong manufacturing base and innovation ecosystem, earning the trust of nearly 10 million customers.
This long-term commitment has established HMIL as a key pillar of India's automotive industry. The company has emerged as India's largest cumulative passenger vehicle exporter and the first automobile manufacturer in the country to achieve the significant milestone of 4 million cumulative vehicle exports since 1999 - a testament to the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and the country's growing role as an automotive export hub.
As the Group expands its investment in India, it will continue to advance from "Make in India" to "Design in India" and "Innovate in India." Through coordinated investments in manufacturing, R&D, local suppliers and future mobility technologies, the Group aims to support India's transition toward sustainable mobility and contribute to the long-term development of its automotive industry.
India represents one of the world's fastest-growing automotive markets and a critical platform for the Group's mid-to-long-term strategy.
To reflect its commitment and further contribution to the nation's automotive sector growth, the Group on October 13, 2026, announced a comprehensive investment strategy for India, committing USD 15.5 billion from 2026 through 2032.
The seven-year investment spans manufacturing expansion, research and development (R&D) infrastructure development, local supplier cultivation for parts localization, and future technology innovation-fostering a comprehensive automotive industry ecosystem in India.
The Group has also established component and service operations through its affiliates including Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Transys, Hyundai Capital, Hyundai Wia, and Hyundai Glovis.
The Group's commitment to India extends beyond business operations. Through diverse social initiatives including the Samarth campaign for disability inclusion and the planned HATS (Hyundai Academy for Technical Skills) vocational training institute in Chennai, Hyundai Motor Group is committed to becoming a trusted brand in India. Since 2016, the Group's major affiliates have cumulatively contributed approximately USD 110 million to social welfare, education, skill development and community programs across India.
