Offenbach, 8 November 2023 – The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been awarded the "Golden Steering Wheel 2023" by "Auto Bild" (45/2023) and "Bild am Sonntag" (46/2023): The fully electric sedan triumphs in the midsize class, securing one of Europe's most prestigious automotive awards.

In the traditionally highly competitive midsize class, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 impressed and prevailed against the competition – notably due to its advanced electric drivetrain, leaving competitors with no chance. The latest model on Hyundai's "Electric Global Modular Platform" (E-GMP) offers a range of up to 614 kilometers (WLTP combined) on a single battery charge. Thanks to the 800-volt fast-charging architecture, over 350 kilometers of additional range can be generated at corresponding stations within just 15 minutes. With advanced technologies such as pre-conditioning of the 53 or 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and the Vehicle-to-Load capability, Hyundai further enhances comfort and everyday usability.

The "Golden Steering Wheel" continues the success of the IONIQ 6: The Streamliner, boasting an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.21, has already been recognized at the "World Car Awards" as the "World Car of the Year 2023," "World Electric Vehicle," and the "World Car Design of the Year 2023." It also secured the class victory in the "New Energy" category at the German Car of the Year 2024.

The "Golden Steering Wheel" is awarded annually by the magazine "Auto Bild" and the newspaper "Bild am Sonntag." The accolade recognizes the best new models from compact cars to luxury vehicles. This year, 57 vehicles that were introduced to the German market in the past twelve months were eligible for the award. After readers select their favorites, the finalists undergo a practical test at the Lausitzring racetrack. A jury consisting of journalists, celebrities, and motorsport professionals then decides on the winner in each category from the top three vehicles chosen by the readers.

About Hyundai Motor Europe HQ

Hyundai Motor Europe HQ was formally established in 2000 with its main office in Offenbach, Germany. It is the regional headquarters responsible for selling vehicles in 47 European countries through 2,279 sales outlets, holding a 4.2 per cent market share in the first three quarters of 2023. More than 70 per cent of the vehicles Hyundai sold in the region are models engineered, tested, and built in Europe to meet the needs of European customers, served by the company’s Czech and Turkish production plants. In the third quarter of 2023, around 16.1 per cent of Hyundai cars sold in Europe were zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles (BEVs and FCEVs), including respective World Car of the Year 2022 and 2023 winners IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. This makes Hyundai one of the leading manufacturers in terms of fleet share as well as total sales of zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles in Europe, as the company transitions to becoming a Smart Mobility Solutions Provider. Additionally, more than 85 per cent of Hyundai’s current line-up in Europe is available as an electrified version. Focused on its vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ with a clear commitment to only sell zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles within Europe by 2035, Hyundai will soon add more BEVs to its electric line-up. The next generation of Kona Electric will be led by an already popular choice in Europe. Additionally, IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai’s first high-performance mass-production BEV, premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England and will be available to the public in Europe by 2024. Hyundai offers its unique Five Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty package with all new cars sold in the region, providing customers with a five-year warranty with no mileage limit, five years of roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.
