SEOUL, September 1, 2020 – Hyundai Motor Company announced August global sales of 312,990 units, which is a 14.2-percent decrease from a year earlier. The decrease mainly stems from the slowdown in economic activities resulting from COVID-19 pandemic.
Korea Sales
Sales in Hyundai’s home market increased 3.2 percent year-over-year to 54,590 units. Popular models such as Grandeur sedan (sold as Azera in some markets) continues to lead domestic sales with 10,235 units. Strong performance of Genesis luxury brand, with the G80 sedan and GV80, also helped to maintain sales momentum in Korea.
Overseas Sales
In other markets, Hyundai recorded sales of 258,400 units, a 17.1-percent decrease from a year earlier, mainly due to the economic downturn from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hyundai Motor will continue to proactively manage risks and minimize the business impact of COVID-19. The company is implementing various measures to take care of its customers, such as extending warranty periods and launching new models online.
