SEOUL, October 29, 2026 – Hyundai Motor Company today announced operating profit of KRW 2.68 trillion for the third quarter of 2026, up 5.5 percent year on year, on the back of favorable exchange rates, cost optimization efforts and improved product mix driven by hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) sales. Operating profit margin rose 0.5 percentage points year on year to 5.9 percent.
Revenue stood at KRW 45.11 trillion for the July–September period, down 3.4 percent from a year earlier as production constraints weighed on sales volume. However, expanded sales of high-value models, led by HEVs, and improved sales mix in key markets cushioned the impact. Net profit, including non-controlling interests, reached KRW 1.93 trillion, down 24.2 percent from a year ago.
Hyundai Motor’s global wholesale volume reached 920,710 units in the third quarter, an 11.3 percent decrease year on year. Fewer working days due to holidays, combined with strike-related production constraints, dampened sales.
In Korea, sales declined 27.2 percent year on year to 131,468 units as strikes impacted domestic production, while sales outside Korea reached 789,242 units, down 8 percent from a year ago. However, Hyundai Motor maintained a market share in the 6 percent range for the sixth consecutive quarter in the U.S. with solid HEV sales.
Electrified vehicles accounted for 26.7 percent of the company's total global sales in the third quarter, up 2.4 percentage points year on year. HEVs alone accounted for 18.2 percent, up 2.7 percentage points, helping improve the sales mix. HEV sales reached 167,414 units in the third quarter, up 3.8 percent from a year ago.
Overall electrified model sales, including HEV, electric vehicle (EV), plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) and fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), declined 2.7 percent year on year to 245,540 units in the third quarter. EV sales stood at 69,117 units, down 9.2 percent from a year earlier.
Hyundai Motor has revised its 2026 annual guidance to reflect changes in the business environment, including weaker global industry demand, production disruptions and rising raw material prices.
The company lowered its annual wholesale sales target to 4 million units, from the previous target of 4.16 million units. The consolidated operating profit margin target has also adjusted to 5.5 to 6.5 percent, from the previous 6.3 to 7.3 percent, reflecting the impact of increased fixed costs from decreased production volume and higher raw material prices. The consolidated revenue growth target of 1.0 to 2.0 percent remains unchanged.
The company also adjusted its automotive investment plan to KRW 16 trillion from KRW 17.8 trillion, after re-examining investment priorities and execution timing.
Hyundai Motor said the revision is a realistic update to reflect volume disruptions and raw material cost increases that accumulated during the year and were beyond its control, emphasizing that the adjustment does not signal a deterioration in its underlying business competitiveness or earnings capability.
Hyundai Motor plans to overcome the challenging business environment and strengthen its competitiveness by increasing production, expanding new model sales, including the all-new TUCSON and the all-new ELANTRA, and continuously improving its cost structure. The company will respond flexibly to shifting demand through a diversified powertrain lineup and a product portfolio tailored to regional market conditions.
Hyundai Motor maintained its quarterly dividend at KRW 2,500 per common share, underscoring its commitment to shareholder value.
