SEOUL, October 5, 2020 – Hyundai Motor Company announced September global sales of 360,757 units, which is a 5.3-percent decline from a year earlier. The decrease mainly stems from the slowdown in economic activities resulting from COVID-19 pandemic.
Korea Sales
Sales in Hyundai’s home market increased 33.8 percent year-over-year to 67,075 units. Grandeur sedan (sold as Azera in some markets) continues to lead domestic sales with 11,590 units. Other models, such as Elantra sedan (sold as Avante in Korea) and Palisade SUV, also helped to maintain sales momentum in Korea.
Overseas Sales
In markets outside of Korea, Hyundai recorded sales of 293,682 units, a 11.2-percent decrease from a year earlier. The decrease is mainly from the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hyundai Motor will continue to proactively manage risks and minimize the business impact of COVID-19. The company has implemented various measures to take care of its customers, such as extending warranty periods, and is launching new models online. In September, Hyundai launched ‘Channel Hyundai’, an interactive app for experiencing the brand in a new way in the COVID-19 era.
