Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist: Hyundai’s Advanced Feature to Prevent Collisions

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Fitur Canggih Hyundai Cegah Tabrakan

Considering features or technologies that enhance passenger safety is crucial when choosing a car. One such innovation is Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Hyundai’s advanced technology designed to prevent collisions on the road.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rear-end collisions cause approximately 500,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths each year. This is why the FCA feature was developed—to help prevent such incidents.

Let’s explore more about the FCA feature, including how it works and how to activate it.

About Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist is an advanced system specifically engineered to prevent or mitigate the effects of frontal collisions. It uses radar and camera sensor technology to detect vehicles ahead or pedestrians and helps avoid potential accidents.

When a collision risk is detected, the system automatically reduces speed and alerts the driver. In critical situations, it can even apply emergency braking to prevent or lessen the impact.

Whether you're driving on the highway or in dense city traffic, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist provides an extra layer of maximum protection, making every journey safer and more comfortable.

How Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist Works

This feature combines low-speed radar sensors with a high-speed camera system to detect collision risks at both low and high speeds. Drivers can also adjust the warning sensitivity with three levels: Early, Normal, and Late.

The FCA system emits special signals forward via its sensors. If the signal bounces back, the vehicle detects an object ahead—such as another car or a pedestrian.

If the object ahead is moving normally, nothing happens. But if it suddenly stops or slows down and the driver doesn’t brake in time, the system automatically triggers emergency braking when collision risk becomes critical.

Since driver reaction times vary, this feature responds faster than most humans, significantly reducing the chance of delayed braking.

How to Activate This Smart Feature

Want to activate Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist in your Hyundai? Here are the simple steps:

  • After starting the car, press the Mode button on the right side of the steering wheel repeatedly until ‘User Settings’ appears on the instrument cluster display.
  • Navigate to ‘Driver Assistance’, then select ‘Forward Collision-Avoidance’. Make sure the checkbox next to the feature is ticked.
  • From the same menu, go to ‘Forward Collision Warning’ and choose between Late, Normal, or Early. Use Early for highway driving and Late for city traffic.
  • The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist feature is now active and will remain on until manually deactivated from the menu.
  • That’s how the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist works—and it comes standard on the latest Hyundai CRETA. A modern urban SUV designed for dynamic city mobility, it combines bold styling with powerful, responsive performance. It also comes equipped with a full suite of safety features, including airbags, Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), and FCA.
