SINGAPORE, January 10, 2024 – Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), the smart factory for electric vehicles (EVs) and Hyundai Motor Group’s leading open innovation hub, today announced new management appointments as its next step for accelerated progress as a smart urban mobility hub. These changes across the manufacturing and sales innovation divisions have come into effect from 1 January 2024.

Dr Park Hyun Sung has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of HMGICS. He last served as the Head of Manufacturing Engineering Research & Development Center at Hyundai Motor Group in South Korea in 2023. In his previous positions with the Hyundai Motor Group, he has consistently demonstrated his expertise and strategic vision most notably in the realm of Manufacturing Engineering. Dr Park is now based in Singapore, and succeeds Mr Jung Hong Bum, responsible for HMGICS since 2021, who will take on an advisory role for the Hyundai Motor Group based in South Korea.

Recognising the opportunity to enhance the execution of HMGICS’ next-generation journey, Dr Alpesh Patel has been instated as the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) of HMGICS. The CIO role was newly established in December 2023 to align and synergise activities from the Technology Innovation Group and Manufacturing Innovation Group. Dr Patel first joined HMGICS in February 2023 as the Vice President and Head of the Technology Innovation Group, and led HMGICS in establishing the first stage of the Meta-factory, which was unveiled during the Grand Opening in November 2023. In his new role, he will lead the charge to realise the vision of a highly automated and autonomous factory for multiple mobility solutions at horizon 2030.

To further strengthen its position in the market, Mr Son Jiho has been appointed as the new Head of the Sales Innovation Group. Mr Son last served as the Head of Sales covering India, Middle East, and Africa for the Hyundai Motor Company. Prior to this role, he spent 5 years in the ASEAN region covering Vietnam. He is now based in Singapore, and succeeds Mr Andy Kang, previous Vice President of HMGICS Sales Innovation Group, who takes on a new role in the South Korea domestic market.

Seamlessly integrated into the Jurong Innovation District urban landscape and the broader Singapore smart city ecosystem, the seven-story, 86,900 m2 HMGICS facility has the capability to manufacture up to 30,000 EVs per annum. Operational since early 2023, HMGICS currently produces the IONIQ 5 fully electric Sports Utility Vehicle and the fully autonomous IONIQ 5 robotaxi. The facility serves as a testbed for developing future mobility solutions — including Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs) — thanks to its advanced manufacturing capability.
