New, improved, super-efficient i10 ready to hit town

The popular Hyundai i10 city car, a strong entry model for newcomers to the brand, is the latest Hyundai model to benefit from a comprehensive set of enhancements.  The new i10 builds upon the success of its predecessor, which performed as the brand’s best-selling model in 2009 and won numerous awards across Europe and around the world.

Entering volume production in October, the new i10 incorporates a wide range of improvements in design, specification and competitiveness.  Even cleaner powertrains include a new three cylinder, 1.0-litre engine with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km, to further progress Hyundai’s ambition of becoming the world’s automotive leader in eco-friendly technologies.

Progressing Hyundai’s new design language

With its sleek curves, body-coloured bumpers and chrome radiator grille, the original i10 already had the looks suitable for its status as a dynamic city car.  The new i10 looks refreshed with a redesigned radiator grille and front air intakes to bring the i10 into line with Hyundai’s new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language, epitomised by the hexagonal frontal form, a signature feature on all Hyundai models going forward.  A reshaped, lower bumper and more angular fog light recesses continue the visual enhancement.

The refresh continues onto the sides and rear of the car, with exterior mirror repeater lamps, new style 13-inch and 14-inch alloy wheels and redesigned rear lamps and bumper completing the new i10’s contemporary and streetwise look.

Moving inside, the new i10 takes on cutting-edge features and design flourishes pioneered on other models in the i-range.  Striking blue illumination gives the dials ultimate clarity, while chrome-finished door handles and gear knob enhance the visual appeal of the cabin.

The eco-technology of the car has also been further enhanced with an ‘eco shift’ indicator that advises drivers of the most efficient moment to change gear, meaning better fuel consumption and lower emissions.

Blue DriveTM program yields class-leading figures

The new i10 is Hyundai’s first European production model to produce a sub-100g/km CO2 emissions figure.  The i10 Blue produces 99g/km of CO2 thanks to the introduction of a new 1.0-litre Kappa engine combined with Blue Drive technology, including ISG (Idle Stop and Go), low-rolling resistance tyres, an alternator management system, and ‘eco shift’ indicator.  The all-aluminium, three cylinder, 12-valve engine generates 69ps at 6.200rpm with 94.1Nm (9.6 kg.m) of torque at 3.500rpm.

Hyundai is targeting global leadership in environmental technologies, and the i10 Blue, as part of the Blue Drive initiative, looks set to contribute to a reduction in the company’s European average emissions figure.

Also featured on the new i10 is an improved four-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine.  Euro V-compliant, it further reduces the environmental impact of the model range, and now produces 85ps and returns a CO2 emissions figure of just 108 g/km in manual guise.

A real contender in its class

Still boasting the longest wheelbase in its class, the new i10 strengthens the model’s claim to be a benchmark for rivals in the European city car segment.  The refreshed styling and improved powertrains help to consolidate i10’s position as one of the most competitively-packaged vehicles on sale in Europe. This claim is boosted by new equipment specification and options for the i10 range, including the i10 Blue variant, with its CO2 emissions figure of just 99 g/km.
