Singapore, 11 June 2025 - Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) is pleased to announce the launch of its Smart Food Lab, a new sensory workshop designed to engage children and their families in discovering the origins and innovations behind the foods they eat. This program is an add-on to the existing complimentary Discovery Tour, where families can also enjoy experiences such as Smart Farm harvesting and tasting.

Building on these experiences, the Smart Food Lab invites children aged 3 to 6 to embark on a hands-on, sensory-led exploration of food grown in modern, technology-assisted environments. In today’s fast-paced urban settings, many children miss opportunities to understand where their food comes from. The Smart Food Lab aims to bridge this gap by encouraging young participants to connect the meals on their plates with nature, the environment, cultural practices, and advanced farming technologies.

In 60-minute sessions held every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 11:00am and 4:00pm to 5:00pm, starting 21 June 2025, children and their accompanying parent or guardian will take part in a series of guided activities exploring food through sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.

Participants will explore the differences between traditionally grown produce and crops cultivated in HMGICS’ high-tech Smart Farm, distinguish different foods by the sounds they make, identify both familiar and new scents, and examine the textures of select crops. The workshop concludes with a fun, interactive Ssam (wrap) making activity using fresh produce from the Smart Farm.

The Smart Food Lab was designed to support healthy child development: it encourages curiosity, builds sensory awareness, nurtures a willingness to try new foods, and helps children develop an appreciation for sustainable and innovative food production methods. The workshop also promotes social skills and environmental responsibility by inviting children and caregivers to share observations and listen to different perspectives in a safe, inclusive environment.

Each session accommodates up to eight children. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout. This program is chargeable at $15 per child, with proceeds from these workshops donated to the President’s Challenge.

Dr. Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS, said, “At HMGICS, we believe in nurturing curiosity and creativity from a young age. The Smart Food Lab offers children a unique opportunity to engage with food in a fun and educational way, connecting technology with nature and culture. We hope this experience will inspire the next generation to appreciate innovative, sustainable food practices and spark their interest in science and technology.”

HMGICS is located at 2 Bulim Avenue, Singapore 649674. Interested families are encouraged to sign up for the Smart Food Lab workshop via hyundai.com/sg. Spaces are limited, and bookings are encouraged. Looking ahead, the public can also look forward to other exciting initiatives, including a kids' coding workshop featuring a miniature version of SPOT, the four-legged robot developed by Boston Dynamics that HMGICS uses for inspecting assembly quality.
