HMGICS Launches SPOT Robot Coding Workshop to Inspire the Next Generation in Robotics and Future Mobility
· HMGICS introduces its second educational program for children aged 6 to 12, focused on coding and robotics
· Workshop features a LEGO scaled-down version of SPOT, the four-legged robot used at HMGICS for quality inspection
· Program starts 13 September 2025, with proceeds supporting the President’s Challenge
Singapore, 4 September 2025 – Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) is launching the SPOT Robot Coding Workshop. This new program introduces children aged 6 to 12 to the fundamentals of robotics and coding, encouraging early engagement with the technologies shaping tomorrow’s mobility.
This marks HMGICS’ second education initiative for children following the successful introduction of the Smart Food Lab in June 2025. While the Smart Food Lab serves younger children aged 3 to 6, the SPOT Robot Coding Workshop provides an opportunity for older children to experience how coding brings robots to life, showcasing how technology like SPOT supports real-world applications today.
SPOT is a four-legged, dog-like robot developed by Boston Dynamics. At HMGICS, SPOT autonomously navigates the production floor, capturing and uploading images of assembled components. These images feed AI-powered quality inspections and fastening verification systems, helping to maintain consistent, high-quality assembly standards across all vehicles.
Built to operate in environments that are repetitive, labor-intensive, or hazardous for humans, SPOT supports HMGICS’ vision of a smarter, safer, and more human-centric manufacturing ecosystem. Its integration reflects Hyundai Motor Group’s broader commitment to advancing robotics and automation as key elements of the future of mobility.
During the 90-minute session, each child will be guided to build and code a miniature robot inspired by SPOT. They will learn how simple commands can help the robot complete everyday tasks that improve human convenience and efficiency.
Beginning on 13 September 2025, the workshop will run every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am and 4:00pm, alongside the Smart Food Lab sessions at 10:30am and 4:30pm. Each session accommodates up to eight children and costs $25 per child. All proceeds will be donated to the President’s Challenge, supporting community initiatives in Singapore.
“At HMGICS, we see it as our responsibility to inspire and prepare the next generation for the future of mobility,” said Dr. Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS. “Following the Smart Food Lab, the SPOT Robot Coding Workshop offers a meaningful and engaging way for children to develop skills and curiosity around robotics and technology. We hope this program will spark their imagination and encourage them to explore what innovation can achieve.”
Interested families can register at hyundai.com/sg . Spaces are limited and early registration is recommended. The SPOT Robot Coding Workshop complements the HMGICS Discovery Tour, which offers the public immersive experiences such as a VR factory tour, Skytrack rides, and the Smart Farm’s seed-to-table journey.
