HMC, working with the Environmental Protection Association, hosted the final round of the 23 Korean Children’s Painting Competition for the Greener Environment, on Sunday, October 10, at Noeul Park within the Seoul World Cup Park (in Mapo-gu). The event drew participation from almost 1,000 children and their family members. The competition, hosted by HMC and the Environmental Protection Association, is also sponsored by 14 other organizations, including the Ministry of Environment. It is the largest such competition to be held in Korea. The preliminary rounds of competition were conducted online this year, enabling communication between children and their parents and enlarging their participation in various online events.

Kim Dong-hyeon (age 13, sixth grader at Buhyeon Elementary School in Incheon), who won the Grand Prize for the individual elementary-school children category, said: “I’m happy to win such an award for drawing what I believe the future of the Earth would be like. I think going on field trips to learn about the natural ecology has helped me.” Professor Kim Chun-su (Western Art at Seoul National University) who participatedin evaluation said: “I was excited to see children unfolding their imaginations about the future of our environment. I tried to understand their work from multiple perspectives.”
