Hyundai’s new i20 gains Five Year Triple Care package and multiple enhancements

Offenbach, July  5th 2010

Hyundai has given its popular i20 model a facelift, bringing a boost in fuel efficiency, added aesthetic appeal and enhanced specification, to ensure the new i20 remains the best value package in its class.

To further strengthen the new i20’s position, it now comes with Hyundai’s industry-leading ‘Five Year Triple Care’ offer*.  This means new i20s will receive a free five-year, bumper-to-bumper unlimited mileage warranty; five years’ roadside assistance; and a
five-year vehicle health-check plan.

The new i20 takes on cutting-edge features and design flourishes pioneered on other models in the i-range.  Striking blue illumination gives the dials ultimate clarity, while chrome-finished door handles and gear knob enhance the visual appeal of the cabin.

The eco-technology of the car has also been further enhanced with an ‘eco shift’ indicator that advises drivers of the most efficient time to change gear, meaning better fuel consumption and lower emissions.  Rear-wheel deflectors have been added on the five door version to aid aerodynamic efficiency and reduce drag.  Further consideration has been given to the new i20’s exterior, which is now finished in waterborne paint instead of a solvent-based paint to minimize environmental impact.

Optional extras now include a bonnet insulator for reduced engine noise and improved thermal efficiency; indicator repeaters built in to the exterior mirrors; and Bluetooth with voice recognition and audio remote.  Automatic cruise control can be specified on diesel versions of new i20.

The new i20 range will come with an engine line up compliant with Euro V regulations, bringing up to 6% reductions in CO2 emissions.  Assisted by low-friction engine oil, the
1.2-liter petrol engine now emits only 119 g/km of CO2, while the 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel versions emit just 109 g/km and 110 g/km respectively.

The introduction of new i20 coincides with the model’s move to a new manufacturing base.  The five-door version of the car is now produced at Hyundia’s Izmit plant in Turkey.  An investment of 80 million Euros was made by the company to transfer the production of 80.000 units per year from India, where right-hand-drive and three-door versions will still be built.  An official ceremony took place last month at the Turkish plant to signal the beginning of this new chapter in the i20 story.

Allan Rushforth, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe, said, “The enhancement to the i20 range will cement Hyundai’s strong position in the European market.  These additions will keep the i20 a stylish vehicle for the fashion conscious, as well as improving its environmental credentials.  The i20 remained a strong contributor to the success of Hyundai in Europe during 2009, with over 59.000 examples sold, taking Hyundai
B-segment sales up by 30%.

“Hyundai’s Five Year Triple Care plan gives the i20 a real competitive advantage, and demonstrates the confidence we have in our technical and manufacturing expertise.  We believe the longer, more comprehensive warranty, roadside assistance and vehicle health check program will be of real value to i20 buyers,” concluded Rushforth.

The new i20 is available to order now in selected markets across Europe.
