1.New Generation i20 Coupe – differentiated by design
- Clear design differentiation for more sporty, dynamic three-door
- Class-leading interior space with class-leading trunk capacity
- High-specification comfort-enhancing features
- Designed and engineered in Europe
- Important part of Product Momentum 2017 initiative
Hyundai Motor has introduced the New Generation i20 Coupe in Europe, expanding product range with distinctive sporty and dynamic design.
For the first time, Hyundai has created a three-door B-segment car that significantly differentiated from the five-door model. Its dynamic exterior and striking interior design are intended to attract young, lifestyle-oriented consumers, extending the appeal of the New Generation i20.
2.Design
- Unique silhouette of New Generation i20 Coupe with differentiated A-, B- and C-Pillar
- Reverse hexagonal emphasises dynamic character
- New rear design creates unique athletic presence
New Generation i20 Coupe offers a unique silhouette in the B-segment. The A-, B-, and C-pillars differ between three- and five-door models, each is more raked providing the Coupe with its own dynamic profile thanks to a stylish sloping roofline, 25 mm lower than its five-door sibling. Interpreting the New Generation i20’s distinctive floating roofline, the Coupe utilises a slim black C-pillar application that emphasises its unique rear design even further.
New Generation i20 Coupe has been styled with an reverse hexagonal front grille, which works harmoniously with redesigned frontbumpers, matching new side sill mouldings and a sporty, rear spoiler.
A muscular character line dominates the rear of New Generation i20 Coupe leading into the a new rear bumper design and creating an, athletic presence.
Eduardo Ramirez, General Manager of Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe, said: “The front of the New Generation i20 Coupe features a reverse hexagonal grille that, framed by iconic side bumper features, lowers the visual stance and emphasizes its road-hugging character. We gave the car a sleeker looking side profile and a more appearance, while retaining generous space of rear passengers. The strong feature over the rear wheels emphasizes the shoulders and directs the attention to the striking horizontal rear lights. Together they underline the sport-oriented image of the car.”
The sophisticated relationship between design and functionality continues around to the rear with new tail lamps. 17-inch alloy wheels are unique to the Coupe model, enhancing its sporty character. The stylish touches continue, including unique Tangerine Orange exterior paintwork carried through to a matching fashionable orange interior trim with orange decals, found exclusively in the Coupe interior.
3.Comfort and convenience
- Outstanding quality of five-door model carried across without compromise
- Best-in-class trunk volume of 336 litres
- Easy-entry front seats with memory function offer high comfort and convenience for all occupants
The New Generation i20 Coupe offers exclusive features, enhancing its appeal as a stylish package that provides interior comfort and all-round quality. An extended sunroof opens up the interior to natural light, enhancing the sense of relaxation and well-being created through an ergonomic driver-orientated interior design.
With a new rear end design, Coupe increases the already outstanding trunk capacity of the 5-door model by 10-litres to class-leading 336-litres.
Easy entry front seats, with a memory function, offer class-leading comfort and ease-of-use for occupants, while low levels of NVH mean New Generation i20 Coupe is a pleasant place to be.
In addition, New Generation i20 Coupe carries the same range of extensive comfort and safety features as seen on the five-door version. So, it can also be equipped with features like a heated steering wheel, automatic-windscreen-defog or the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), while retaining the five-door’s excellent leg-, head- and shoulder-room.
4.Engines and transmissions
- Engine line-up tuned for day-to-day driveability
- New 1,4-litre Kappa engine enhances fuel efficiency
- 1,0-litre T-GDI engine to expand engine line-up in 2015
New Generation i20 Coupe has an engine line-up tuned and optimised for day-to-day driveability. The gasoline engines available are the much-praised 1,25-litre ‘Kappa’ with 84 PS and the newly developed 100 PS 1,4-litre ‘Kappa’. Two diesel engines, a 1,1-litre with 75 ps and a 1,4-litre with 90 PS, from the ‘U-II’ diesel family complete the engine line up. The choice of engines has been enhanced to offer outstanding choice and drivability, each is compliant with new Euro6 emission regulations. Engines are mated to a choice of five- and six-speed manual whereas the 1,4 Kappa engine is also available with a four-speed automatic transmissions. In addition an automated stop and go (ISG) system is available to further improve the efficiency.
To further enhance the engine line-up of New Generation i20 Coupe, a newly developed 1,0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine will be introduced in 2015. This new Kappa 1,0-litre T-GDI is the first of a new generation of small turbocharged gasoline engines, offering enhanced performance, driving pleasure and efficiency.
The 1,0 litre T-GDI engine is available in two power outputs. The standard-power 100 PS version is aimed at maximising fuel efficiency, while the high-power 120 PS unit has been developed with driving pleasure as a primary objective.
“The new turbocharged engine carries various enhancements and new technologies like direct gasoline injection and a small, single-scroll turbocharger,” explains Jürgen Grimm, Head of Powertrain at Hyundai’s European Technical Center in Rüsselsheim.
5.Made in Europe for Europe
