By 2030, we’re predicting cars will drive themselves.

At Hyundai, we’re already well on our way to developing them, with many of today’s Hyundai’s featuring
self-driving technology like Smart Park Assist and Lane Keeping Assist.

As society makes this leap forward, experts see exciting change ahead. From less congestion on the
roads as traffic lights connect with cars and change based on real-time data. To more time for leisure
and work as commuters get some of their day back. Most importantly, though, we can hope for fewer
accidents caused by human error – with one report suggesting we’ll see an 80% reduction by 2040.

Autonomous driving levels.

Level of Autonomy Experience
Level 0 No Automation.
The way we’ve been doing it all along – the driver (human) controls everything about the car.
Level 1 Driver Assistance.
The car functions are still largely controlled by the driver, but some specific functions can be done automatically by the car.
Level 2 Partial Automation.
The vehicle offers at least one driver assistance system which uses information about the driving environment to automate the car. The driver is disengaged from physically operating the vehicle (by having hands off the wheel) but is ready to take control of the vehicle if needed. Technologies like our Smart Park Assist and Lane Keeping Assist are examples.
Level 3 Conditional Automation.
Drivers are still necessary in level 3 cars, but are able to completely shift "safety-critical functions" to the vehicle, under certain traffic or environmental conditions. It means that the driver is still present and will intervene if necessary, but is not required to monitor the situation in the same way it does for the previous levels.
Level 4 High Automation.
This is what is meant by "fully autonomous." Level 4 vehicles are "designed to perform all safety-critical driving functions and monitor roadway conditions for an entire trip." However, it's important to note that this is limited to the "operational design domain (ODD)" of the vehicle — meaning it does not cover every driving scenario.
Level 5 Full Automation.
This refers to a fully-autonomous system that expects the vehicle's performance to equal that of a human driver, in every driving scenario —including extreme environments like dirt roads that are unlikely to be navigated by driverless vehicles in the near future.

Smart car technology.

Here are some of the smart car technologies you can expect to see in Hyundais in the near future.

Smart Traffic Jam Assist.
In stop-and-go traffic, Traffic Jam Assist monitors the road ahead with steering assist control and automatically maintains a safe distance behind the car in front, accelerating and decelerating as traffic allows at a steady speed.
Interactive Voice Recognition.
Created with the latest IT development and the AVN system, the new technology enables an interactive voice recognition through the speaker or a button that allows the driver to control ‘Siri (Apple’s voice recognition service)’ and the mobile phone with ease.
Night View.
The advanced feature of the real-time camera display provides the driver with optimised road visibility and enhanced safety for night-time driving conditions.
Highway Driving Assist.
Designed to enhance the driving support system, Highway Driving Assist System integrates longitudinal and lateral control for the speed range under 150 kph and assists driver steering while keeping the vehicle at a safe distance with Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) for a more efficient and safer driving on a highway.
Driver State Monitoring.
This system monitors any signs of driver’s drowsiness, fatigue or distraction to effectively protect the driver from dangerous situations by triggering an alarm at an appropriate time.
Remote Parking Assist System.
Without a driver in the vehicle, parallel and diagonal parking can be completed with a single smart key.
Smart Blind Spot Detection.
Provides warning and actively controls the vehicle when the risk of lateral collision is detected.
Augmented Reality.
New integration of a real camera footage enables 3D Navigation for a better driving experience.
Motion Recognition.
Hyundai’s latest three-dimensional hand gesture recognition gives the driver greater control of multiple features.
