Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) proudly announces the Australian debut of XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show, marking a significant milestone in the nation's transition to environmentally friendly heavy transport.
In addition, HMCA will showcase the enhanced MIGHTY Electric Truck, featuring new specifications tailored for urban and regional operations throughout Australia.
Together, these EV trucks demonstrate Hyundai’s ongoing commitment to commercial transport with zero tailpipe emissions.
XCIENT Fuel Cell has already been deployed in 13 countries, logging more than 13 million kilometers of real-world operations in Switzerland alone. Closer to home XCIENT has been conducting trials in New Zealand, covering over 100,000 kilometres since 2021.
In Australia, where freight significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, XCIENT represents a game-changing opportunity for fleets to transition to eco-friendly transport without compromising on range or power.
As Hyundai takes bold steps toward a cleaner transport future, the unveiling of its next-generation of zero tailpipe emission trucks at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show signals more than just new product innovation - it reflects the company’s strategic vision to decarbonise commercial transport in Australia. This commitment is echoed by HMCA Head of Commercial Vehicles and Fleet Martin Him, who emphasised the broader significance of the launch:
“Hyundai’s unveiling of XCIENT Fuel Cell and the enhanced MIGHTY Electric at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show highlights our dedication to leading Australia's shift towards sustainable commercial transport,” said Mr. Him.
“With a focus on innovation and environmental responsibility, Hyundai continues to develop solutions that meet the evolving needs of the transport industry.”
“As Hyundai continues its global leadership in eco mobility, the launch of XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck in Australia is a defining moment. It represents more than just a new product - it is a call to action for industry, government, and energy sectors to embrace a cleaner, smarter transport future.”
“Through continuous investment in battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, Hyundai aims to lead the transition to low-emissions transport in Australia and beyond.”
XCIENT FUEL CELL TRUCK: PIONEERING HYDROGEN MOBILITY
XCIENT Fuel Cell is the world’s first mass-produced, heavy-duty truck powered by hydrogen, offering a sustainable solution for long-haul freight whilst decarbonising freight transport.
Equipped with a 350kW electric motor, it delivers robust performance while emitting only water vapour. The truck boasts a range of approximately 400km and can be refuelled in under 20 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for operators.
Integrated safety and efficiency
XCIENT Fuel Cell is not only clean but also smart and safe. It features Hyundai’s latest SmartSense™ safety suite, which includes:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Lane Departure Warning·
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Driver Attention Warning
- Hill Start Assist
Additionally, regenerative braking and a high-efficiency drivetrain reduce operational energy use, ensuring sustainability is also cost-effective.
Long-term plans for the fuel cell truck include integrating XCIENT into Australia's growing hydrogen economy, supported by local green hydrogen production projects.
Australian fleet trials and deployment
XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck is currently in Australia for a comprehensive program of evaluation, technical assessment, and real-world fleet trials. This initiative marks a critical step in HMCA’s mission to grow the Australian hydrogen mobility sector.
To ensure XCIENT is tailored to Australian conditions and industry needs, HMCA is in active discussions with a wide range of prospective partners. These discussions are focused on identifying practical applications for XCIENT across a variety of use cases and operational environments.
HMCA encourages interested fleets and organisations to reach out directly to discuss opportunities to participate in pilot programs or to explore the integration of hydrogen-powered vehicles into their operations.
Visitors to the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show are invited to experience XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck in person at the Hyundai stand, with product experts on hand to provide insights into hydrogen mobility and discuss the suitability of the XCIENT to their fleet needs.

MIGHTY ELECTRIC TRUCK: ENHANCED FEATURES FOR URBAN EFFICIENCY
Initially launched in Australia in 2023, the MIGHTY Electric Truck, Hyundai's solution for low-emission urban logistics, has introduced a range of enhancements for 2025.
These updates focus on improved performance, safety, and versatility, catering to the evolving needs of urban logistics and delivery services.
Enhanced performance and range
The MIGHTY Electric Truck features a 114.5kWh lithium-ion (LFP) battery, delivering a range of up to 200km when fully loaded, making it ideal for urban operations and last-mile deliveries. This range was validated in a tray body configuration with air conditioning active, tested under typical Australian urban driving conditions.
The vehicle's 120kW electric motor provides 320Nm of torque ensures robust performance even under heavy loads.
Charging is convenient and versatile. The MIGHTY Electric supports both AC and DC charging via a CCS2 combo port - accepting up to 6.6 kW AC or 100 kW DC fast charging.
Using a 100kW DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 8% to 100% in approximately 71 minutes, making full recharges possible within a standard lunch break.
For faster turnarounds, a 20-minute fast charge during a delivery stop can add approximately 100km of range. The truck also features a two-stage regenerative braking system, recovering up to 33% of braking energy, which further enhances overall efficiency.
Flexible configurations and licensing
To accommodate various business needs, the MIGHTY Electric is now available in two Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) options: a 4.5-tonne variant suitable for drivers with a standard car license and a 7.3-tonne model requiring a truck license. This flexibility allows a broader range of operators to adopt electric vehicles without additional licensing hurdles.
The 7.3-tonne model provides a braked towing capacity of 1,000kg and non-braked capacity of 380kg while the 4.5-tonne variant offers a braked towing capacity of 3,800kg and non-braked capacity of 1,000kg.
Hyundai also offers multiple body configurations for the MIGHTY Electric to cater to diverse industry requirements:
- Alloy Tray: A factory-fitted option measuring 4,200mm in length and 2,353mm in width, providing a ready-to-go solution for general freight
- Tipper: Ideal for construction and waste management sectors, the tipper variant offers robust performance for heavy-duty tasks
- Pantech and Refrigerated Pantech: These options are suitable for secure and temperature-controlled deliveries, ensuring goods are transported safely
The MIGHTY Electric is also equipped with Hyundai SmartSense™, a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to enhance safety.
Features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, dual front airbags, Hill Start Assist, traction control, and a rear-view camera.
Comprehensive warranty, and nationwide dealer and service network
Hyundai backs the MIGHTY Electric with a 5-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/400,000 km battery warranty.
Scheduled servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000 km, with the total cost for the first five years estimated at under $4,300.
Hyundai has established a dedicated network of authorised electric truck dealers across Australia, providing comprehensive sales and service support for both the MIGHTY Electric and XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks.
