Hydrogen mobility for Korean Embassy
Hyundai has supplied a hydrogen fuel-cell NEXO to the Korean Embassy for official business in the Canberra region.
NEXO’s ambassadorial duties follow deployments into the ACT and Queensland Government, Queensland Police and Woodside Energy fleets.
“I am proud to see the Korean futuristic car NEXO running on the streets of the Australian capital city of Canberra,” Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Australia, Jeong-sik Kang said. “It represents the very best of advanced, user-friendly and zero-emission transport technology from our country.”
Canberra’s Hydrogen station, which opened in 2020 to support the ACT government fleet, will refuel the vehicle, with service and support provided by Lennock Hyundai in Phillip.
This latest prestigious NEXO deployment sees the unique benefits of a zero-emissions FCEV opened up to an ever-broader audience, while making the technology more visible.
Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee, said: “Hyundai is delighted to provide NEXO to the Korean Embassy, to experience all the benefits of its advanced hydrogen technology.”
“We are confident it will provide embassy staff with reliable, safe, zero-emission motoring for many years to come.”
The Korean Embassy deployment marks yet another milestone as Hyundai Motor Company Australia works with government and other stakeholders to help implement Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy, which aims to establish Australia at the forefront of the global hydrogen industry by 2030.
With NEXO as the technological flagship of a growing green vehicle portfolio, Hyundai is the only brand in Australia to offer hydrogen fuel-cell electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid (IONIQ), plus battery electric (IONIQ, Kona Electric and COTY-winning IONIQ 5) vehicles.
NEXO offers a range of 666km (WLTP) with a refuelling time of three to five minutes, in a futuristic compact SUV package that purifies the air as it drives, and emits only water vapour from its exhaust.
The ANCAP five-star-rated NEXO was the first fuel-cell electric vehicle officially certified for use on Australian roads, from the company that pioneered the mass-production FCEV.
As Hyundai’s second-generation fuel-cell vehicle, NEXO combines clean mobility with the latest autonomous driving capabilities and smart advanced driving assistance systems.
