What is scrutineering?
In the interests of consistency in the application of international safety standards, AASA requires Scrutineering personnel in the Scrutineering Bay to inspect all highly modified and non road-registered vehicles, prior to their participation in on-track activity including but not exclusive to practice sessions, speed events or races, using the following checklist for Hyundai N Club Track Day Scrutineers 2026.
Why has scrutineering been implemented?
Applicable from November 2025 onwards, scrutineering is a new initiative aimed at improving the safety for all on-track participants, including - and importantly - for passengers. This process is not aimed at restricting your participation in on-track activity or to collect information, but simply a duty of care to all Nthusiasts while also providing you with an inspection from a qualified technician.
What vehicles require scrutineering?
As part of our legal permit requirements for Hyundai N Festival and N Club Track Day events, the scrutineering process will be applicable to all highly modified and non-road-registered vehicles taking part in the track sessions. This will include vehicles with the following modifications:
Non-genuine braking system upgrades (excluding brake pads)
Non-standard aerodynamic devices (front splitters and rear wings)
Non-standard turbochargers and/or fuel systems
Race seats and/or harnesses
Roll cages
N Australia has the right to review and admit all applicants based on the condition and safety of their vehicle. Any suggested modifications to clear the scrutineering process must be presented again to the scrutineers before entering the track sessions.
My vehicle requires scrutineering, but can I take passengers?
If you intend to take passengers during the on-track sessions, it is required that both the driver and the front seat passenger have the same level of safety equipment. If, for example, you have fitted a non-standard race seat with a harness for the driver, then this must be replicated with the passenger seat also. If not, you will still be allowed to drive in the on-track sessions, but must not take any passengers.
-
Can I use a civilian licence, or do I need a track licence?
On-track speed activities—drivers—must hold a valid Full Driver Licence or Provisional Driver Licence and an appropriate track licence issued by the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA), (excluding Cruis’N and Parade Lap). A Motorsport Australia Licence is not valid for this event.
Participating drivers will not be permitted to drive on-track without showing evidence of their Full Driver Licence or Provisional Driver Licence to Hyundai or Event Organiser representatives on the day of the Hyundai Event. Learner’s Permit will not be permitted to drive on-track at the Hyundai Event.
Non-speed events and off-track activities only require a valid civilian licence. Please refer to the booking information listed on each product page. Passengers do not require a track licence to go on-track.
Why do I need an AASA licence and what are the options?
This is a requirement for personal injury coverage, event sanctioning, and motorsport safety standards at Winton Raceway.
Participants can choose between two main types
(i) AASA Day Licence or (ii) annual AASA General Speed Event Licence.
-
Are helmets mandatory?
A: Helmets are mandatory for all drivers and passengers participating in any on-track speed activity including Hyundai N Festival, N Club Track Days and Second Drivers.
Hyundai N Australia Passenger Rides - Hyundai can provide a loan helmet.
Track Day Sessions - all other drivers and their helmeted passengers must bring their own helmet, which must meet current Australian safety standards (AS 1698, or ECE 22.05+ for helmets). Loan helmets are NOT available for general use.
Participants are solely responsible for ensuring the compliance and condition of their safety gear. If a helmet fails to comply or does not carry the proper certification mark/sticker, you will be unable to participate.
If in doubt, please refer to the Terms and Conditions
