Established on May 06, 1996, HMIL has grown into one of India’s most trusted and loved automotive brands. With a rich legacy of three decades, Hyundai is primed for the future. It is young at 30, ready for the next chapter of growth and accelerating towards a new era of innovation, sustainability and customer delight. Commitment to India
India has been central to Hyundai’s global story. Since inception, HMIL has invested INR 40,700 Crore in scaling operations, creating world class infrastructure and nurturing local talent. Hyundai’s deep localization strategy has strengthened India’s supply chain achieving 82% average localization, saving significant foreign exchange and empowering countless local industries and workforce, reinforcing its commitment to India’s economic growth.
Manufacturing Excellence
Hyundai’s India journey began with the groundbreaking of its state of the art manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 6th May 1996. Commissioned in 1998, this plant became Hyundai’s first integrated car manufacturing facility outside Korea and has since evolved into a benchmark for smart factory practices and green manufacturing.
To meet growing demand and reinforce India’s role as a global hub, HMIL operationalized its Talegaon manufacturing facility in Pune in 2025. Together, the Chennai and Talegaon plants provide a consolidated annual production capacity of 9.94 lakhs, poised to scale up to 10.74 lakhs by 2028, positioning India at the heart of Hyundai’s global manufacturing footprint.

HMIL has built one of the country’s most extensive sales networks, ensuring accessibility and customer convenience across the nation. With 1500+ sales outlets spanning 1100+ cities, HMIL delivers seamless reach and customer engagement covering 78% of Indian districts, reinforcing its commitment to serving diverse customer needs at scale. This expansive footprint reflects Hyundai’s deep connect with India, enabling millions of customers to experience trust and care at every step of their journey.
Customer-centricity: Expansive & Accessible Service Network
For three decades, HMIL has redefined customer care in the Indian automotive industry, evolving from humble beginnings to becoming a brand synonymous with world class aftersales service. HMIL’s expansive service network of 1,675 touchpoints and 162 Mobile Service Vans across 1,025 cities ensures reach even into the remotest areas. More than 50,000 expert professionals at Hyundai dealerships deliver seamless care, reflected in a consistently high 91.5% Net Promoter Score. Eco friendly practices such as dry wash services, waterborne paint systems and paperless processes at 100% touchpoints, along with solarization at 120 touchpoints reflect Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability in service.
Hyundai pioneered digital innovation in service with 91% of repair orders opened digitally, live streaming of vehicle service at 632 workshops and remote diagnostics enhancing proactive care. Extended warranty programs covering up to the 7th year of ownership have further strengthened customer trust, with over 3.2 million policies sold till date.
Make in India, Made for the World
Hyundai Motor India has firmly established itself as cumulatively the largest passenger vehicle exporter since inception. Over 3.9 million vehicles have been shipped to more than 150 countries, reinforcing the philosophy of Make in India, Made for the World. Top global markets for HMIL’s made-in-India products include Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile and Peru with the Hyundai VERNA, Grand i10 NIOS and AURA accounting for the majority share. Keeping in mind both retail and fleet customers, each product is built with market specific customizations, meeting the expectations of customers across different countries and cultures. Export milestones include 0.5 million units by 2008, 1 million by 2010, 2 million by 2014, 3 million by 2020 and 3.9 million by 2026 (as on date).
Sustainability and ESG Leadership
Sustainability remains central to Hyundai’s journey in India. All HMIL offices and plants across the country are powered by 100% renewable energy under the RE100 initiative. HMIL has adopted transparent Scope 2 emissions accounting and is aligned with HMC’s global roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
Sustainability is embedded into every facet of HMIL’s operations. For instance, 80% of water needs at HMIL Chennai plant are met through rainwater harvesting and recycling, supported by six ponds with a combined capacity of 3,35,000 kl. At Chennai and HMIL Headquarters in Gurugram, 100% of treated wastewater is reused ensuring zero liquid discharge. Further, HMIL has implemented 350+ energy efficiency projects in five years, saving the energy equivalent of 21,000 tons of oil (TOE) in FY 2024-25 alone, with another 16,440 TOE targeted over the next five years.
Community and Creating Shared Value
Through its CSR arm Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), HMIL has invested over INR 803 crore in CSR since 2014, positively impacting an average of 2.2 million lives annually across 28 states and 5 union territories, driving large scale change through environmental stewardship, education, skill development and healthcare.
Key achievements include planting 1.29 million trees, restoring 850 acres of land and six water bodies, recharging 262 million liters of water and diverting nearly 1 million kg of waste from landfills. Over 2,300 schools have been supported benefiting 458,000 students, while more than 1,000 scholarships and grants worth INR 25.5 crore have empowered students, para athletes and artists. Skill initiatives across 101 institutions have trained thousands of youths creating 8,500+ livelihoods. Healthcare outreach through 10 Mobile Medical Units and 51 satellite clinics ensures access to quality care in underserved regions across India.
Together, these initiatives reflect HMIL’s deep commitment to building resilient communities and creating shared prosperity alongside India’s growth story.
People and Employment Generation
Over the past three decades, HMIL has created about 15,000 – 18,000 direct jobs and supported indirect employment opportunities for 3,50,000 – 4,50,000 people through its extensive ecosystem of suppliers, dealers and partners. Recognized among India’s top employers, Hyundai fosters diversity, inclusion and people centric HR practices, ensuring that its workforce remains future ready and empowered.
