Every Hyundai buyer a charity hero as Hyundai Help for Kids hits $16m milestone.
- Hyundai Help for Kids, the charitable arm of Hyundai Motor Company Australia, established in 2014, has reached a staggering $16 million in contributions
- i30 Sedan Hybrid Elite sold at Maughan Thiem Hyundai in Cheltenham, South Australia pushed the amount beyond the significant milestone
Have you ever helped tens of thousands of Aussie kids without even trying?
Well, if you’re one of the hundreds of thousands of people who bought a new Hyundai over the past 12 years in Australia, it turns out you have, and you owe yourself a pat on the back, because you’ve helped raise a staggering $16 million for dozens of charities that help children in need, and their families as part of the Hyundai Help for kids initiative.
Buying a new car can feel like a sizeable, shiny gift to yourself, but if the car you chose was a Hyundai from the 168-strong Hyundai National Dealer Network then a part of the money you paid went to Hyundai Help for Kids, which was then shared with some of the most deserving and wonderful charity organisations in the country.
When a Hyundai i30 Sedan Hybrid Elite was sold at Maughan Thiem Hyundai in Cheltenham, South Australia, recently, the money from that purchase pushed the amount raised by this incredible initiative beyond the $16m mark. That’s more than $1.3m a year, on average, despite difficult periods for fundraising - and for charities in general - during the global pandemic.

First established in January 2014, Hyundai Help for Kids is a collaboration between Hyundai Motor Company Australia and its National Dealer Network with funds being raised for the program’s valued partners every time a new Hyundai is sold anywhere in Australia.
That means that every Hyundai buyer in the country during this time has, without even knowing it in most cases, helped raise significant funds for worthy organisations focused on assisting Australian youth. It also means that Hyundai Australia’s booming sales over that period have been a huge win for the community at large.
It’s also a huge point of pride for Hyundai’s employees and dealers across the country, according to Hyundai Australia CEO Don Romano.
“We all have an obligation in what we do in our businesses and what we do socially within our communities, and the work that Hyundai Help for Kids does is our way of giving back to the Australian community,” Mr Romano said.
Since taking up my role in Australia, I have been overwhelmed by the incredible work that our charity partners do, and intensely proud that Hyundai Australia, in partnership with our Dealers, takes such a prominent role in raising funds for these incredible organisations and the vital work that they do.”

The family of charitable organisations supported by Hyundai Help for Kids currently numbers 12 and includes:
- Assistance Dogs Australia
- Bear Cottage and Kids Research Institute (Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation)
- Children’s Cancer Institute Australia
- Little Wings
- Make-A-Wish Australia
- Miracle Babies Foundation
- Clown Doctors Australia
- Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia
- Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland
- Robert Connor Dawes Foundation
- Football Futures Foundation
As well as raising money with each car sold, Hyundai Help for Kids provides Hyundai vehicles to charities to aid them in their work - driving seriously ill children to and from the free medical flights provided by Little Wings, ferrying Clown Doctors to regional areas and providing vans for transporting Assistance Dogs.
One of the founding partners is Ronald McDonald House Australia, which has received more than $4.32 million in grants and vital vehicle support since 2014, enabling 27,035 nights of accommodation for families with ill or injured children, helping them stay close to the care their children need.
“In Australia, Ronald McDonald House supported over 89,000 families last year. Our long-term partnership with Hyundai is invaluable, and the difference that more than 27,000 nights of safe accommodation for families with children who are ill or injured cannot be put into words. We all know that children heal faster, and the family feels stronger when they can stay close to their sick child. Hyundai, its Dealers, and customers make that happen through their ongoing support. It’s truly a lifeline for families, no matter how far away from home they are,” said Denise Lumsden, Ronald McDonald House Australia, Chief Operating Officer.
